Conservatives Might Start Hating Colorado....

I was doing the math here. According to the latest state by state polls as of today, Bush is ahead 273 to 241 with about 3 states (24 electoral votes) in which the polls are exactly tied. Here is the link Im basing my info on:

http://www.electoral-vote.com

Now I was playing around with numbers here. Let's say Kerry ends up winning Minnesota (10) and Maryland (10) both states that Gore won so you can reasonably say Kerry has a better chance of winning them. Then lets say he is able to win in New Hampshire and Maine...Maine is a Gore state and Kerry has home field advantage in NH. You know what the result would be if he did in fact win Minn, NH, Maine and MD? 269-269.

So why would conservatives hate Colorado? Well as it turns out, Colorado has a petition on the ballot that would change the way they count their electoral votes. Instead of it being a "winner take all" state as all states are now, they would award electoral votes based on how many congressional districts they win. So let's say Bush wins Colorado which he probably will, there are at least 2 heavily democratic congressional districts in the state that Kerry would win because of the numbers. That would mean that Bush would NOT get the full 9 electoral votes that Colorado has. Instead he would get 7 and Kerry would get 2 which would put the end result of this election at Kerry 271 and Bush 267.

Just to clarify, the petition in Colorado WOULD take effect IMMEDIATELY so this will be in play for this presidential election because the people who actually VOTE in the electoral college do not do so until December I beleive. As it stands now, the current polls in Colorado show that changing the state to electoral votes being awarded by congressional district is ahead by about 58-42%.

If you thought 2000 was bad, 2004 could be a lot LOT worse. Just something to think about.

What are you talking about? This is a ballot petition that the people will vote on. Apparantly conservatives don't like the voting process.

Do you think whatever a state votes ya for is Constitutional? Think hard.

Wouldn't this be a story. If that played out and those 2 votes changed the outcome. You can damn well bet that the Repubs would appeal to the Supreme Court. And you damn well bet they'd appoint Bush again. Seriously, if that happens, there may be a revolution. What was that about "fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice...*CENSOR**CENSOR**CENSOR**CENSOR**CENSOR**CENSOR*, I'm gonna start tearing *CENSOR**CENSOR**CENSOR**CENSOR* up!"

Thats a different question. You said that the Democrats were playing games to "steal the election." Again how is it Democrats trying to "steal the election" when it is a ballot petition that the people would vote on?

It would absolutely be an attempt to steal the election. You had 4 years since the last time to change it, if you wanted to do something like that. You can't panic now, because Kerry's behind, and try to come up with ways to get enough votes for him. That's bogus.

Very good sign in Colorado - put it on the ballot and let the people vote. Don't need liberal judges writing law. With this issue on the ballot it will be Bush in a landslide in Elway country.

No doubt the libs are trying to pull a fast one but it may set some sort of precedent to eventually letting the people ban abortion.

First off a Bush win in CO is no sure thing. Second I think plenty of Republicans were originally behind this but suddenly fearing it could hurt then they disassociated themselves from it. Third there are no rules that state how delegates are awarded by state so it would be a stretch to see the court block this. Only way Republicans continue winning is backing the antiquated electoral college system with a bunch of easy votes picked up in "red" states that have as many people living in them as about 30 blocks in Manhattan.

Wild Bill-Since Bush has a lead that would suggest a landslide nationally, there is nothing to your theory that says the Republicans can only win because of the electoral college.

We can comprimise here...the left can split Colorado's electoral votes and we'll take our cut of New York and California.
