Dr. Hockey and you think it's a one game series.

In 4 straight? Canes in 5? 7?

-250 for the Canes right now - all hail the chalk psychic!

I think it is a lock for the Hurricanes to win the series since Edmonton lost their best player.

No doubt that Roloson was an important player up until now for the Oilers but I wouldn't say he was their best.

Look at the performances of guys like Peca, Smith, Pronger, Horcoff, Pisani, Smyth and Hemsky, among others. These guys are the real heart and soul of this team and it is these players that will determine the outcome of the Series as far as Edmonton is concerned.

It is silly to use the word "lock" in any situation but after Game 1 of a 7 Game Series it is absolutely absurd, even if you a a HOMER.

The fact that more than a few have used "lock" just makes me feel that much better that the series is FAR from over. Oilers relish being in the underdog role and many tried to paint the Canes as being the dog for not having a lot of rest --- well that's out the window now lol.

In 10 years Carolina may not even have a team (possibly in Portland/Seattle/Vegas) -- I'd prefer to see them back in Hartford though.

If you think Minny's throw away at the deadline is Edmonton's best player, you haven't watched much of the Oilers playoff run.

Big mistake to count Edm out, not like LAK losing Kobe, or the Heat losing Shaq or Wade. Edm is deep up front and has experience with a decent D not to mention some of the coaching staff are past Stanley Cup winners and warriors. Have to remember Carolina doesn't have Hasek or Roy in net, he's a rook by the way also who's been pulled already during these playoffs. Makes this final even more interesting. GL

Edmonton would'nt have gotten this far without the stellar performance of Roloson... so yes he's their most important player.

Markie Mark...that is not what sour grapes means... LOL!

However, I agree with Markie Mark: no one should count Edmonton done and the series over.

tulsa (I insert my name because it is easy and despite the fact that the Rx does it automatically....because I do it better.)

Tulsa,

I am calling this sour grapes because it is quite possible that MSUSpartans is still pissed about Edmonton bumping off Detroit in the first round. Just look at his avatar!

Sour grapes huh?

Why dont you get a life man. I'm way over the Wings losing

Just another example of someone who cant handle a differing opinion. So you're gonna tell me that Edmonton could have made it this far with Conklin?

I beg to differ.

Well then you're obviously a moron who uses lame sayings like "sour grapes" when he doesnt like what I have to say. I'm still waiting for your answer about Rollie though.

I'll say it. Now can you somehow prove that they wouldn't have made it this far with him? Playoffs are when regular goalies can become stars (one only needs to look at Anaheim, Edmonton, Carolina and Buffalo).

Odds say Conklin wouldn't have. Odds also had the Oilers listed as a dog in all 4 series this playoffs.

I saw Conklin get rattled during the regualr season pretty easily. I dont know about Jussi, I havent seen him.

Edmonton doesnt have the luxury of depth that some of the other teams you mentioned have. They rely on a tight defensive game while charging the offensive zone to create turnovers and mismatches. That type of gameplan requires a vetern goalie who doesnt get rattled by having the puck in his end a lot. (as evidenced the Oilers have been outchanced and outshot in almost all the games they have played in these playoffs). Now Ty Conklin may prove to be worthy and this may turn into a very excellent series. But I havent seen any flashes of brilliance from him to suggest that.

Besides the main point of this topic was that Rollie is the best player on the team. And I dont know how anyone can deny that. On most teams, the goalie is the MVP.

Better yet, how about the fact that Rollie was the key factor to pushing the Oilers into the playoffs. As Conklin and Markanen (however you spell it) werent getting the job done.
