Hi friends at the RX. I have an internet problem and am hoping some of the sharp minds here can help me out.
I can not access some sites including the RX. Some other sites inaccessible are Microsoft sites including hotmail, our internet provider (Charter communications), BetonUsa.com
I can access yahoo (pages download slowly), some gaming sites: Sportsbook.com, Bodog, betatlas (homepage loads slowly), Betroyal, megasports and sportsbetting. Most of the mentioned sites work normal with download speeds associated with cable internet.
I have used a spywear removal program (webroot.com) that seems to have removed any spy programs. I have scanned with Norton antivirus 2006 after running spyware program and there are no spy programs.
Whenever I would reboot the computer, MSN messenger and hotmail would be signed in. Now for the last three days, the process commences but ends without getting signed in
This problem has existed for 3 days and I’ve use Gateway (bought PC 3.5 years ago with unlimited customer service help) customer service and our internet provider customer service to no avail. Consensus is spywear problem and perhaps Internet explorer issue.
I was going to use system restore(have used it in the past several times always successful—last time used 8 months ago) yet that utility says no restoration dates for month of December and I can’t click back to November. In past restore dates were made on a near daily basis. Not to thrilled about this scenario. I have Windows XP.
If anyone can help, I’d be forever grateful. This posting is being done from my neighbor’s home.
Please contact me with any possible solutions at my yahoo email: NEB35_31.1971
Thanks, Birdman

You could use Spybot and Hijack This. Always use them in safe mode. Tell me if you need links and how-to.

Try online scanners from Trend Micro and Panda to see if there's anything.

Sounds like 1) You still have some remnants of whatever virus\trojan\spyware that you had or 2) Whatever you had tore up your IE installation.

Go to trendmicro.com & download tsc.zip and the latest virus pattern file. Extract the zip file to a folder & save the pattern file to that same folder. Run TSC.exe & see if that fixes anything.

If your IE is torn up (which I have seen), you can take an easy way out & just install Firefox or you can try to reinstall IE if you can find the setup file on Microsofts site. There is no guarantee that that will fix it--some IE issues end up requiring you to reinstall XP....you can thank Bill Gates for that BS.

Thanks, guys. I'm at library now-no visiting the RX for 5 days--ouch! A techie is coming to the home Tuesday--from talking to people and reading this, thread I think my IE Explorer is "tore up". Hopefully, I'll be back in the swing by next weekend at the latest.

Birdman, are you up to date on the all windows updates? I would check at windowsupdate.com

Also, have you tried repairing Internet Explorer? GOTO setting> control panel> click add remove> then look for Microsoft Internet Explorer> click add/remove> then a box should appear with the option to repair or you can restore the previous Windows configuration..
