can you ping an exterior IP like yahoo.com?

you need to open a command prompt and type

ping www.yahoo.com

and see if you get replies

if you do then the computer is definitively online and it could be a browser issue.

if it doesn't work then try pinging the IP instead of the domain name

something like

ping 69.147.76.15

let us know your findings

last resort

(this resets the TCP/IP stack , I am assuming its windows xp, try it if you are using Vista as well)

from the command prompt

netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt

then reboot your computer

also if you have wireless connections active while being hard wired that could pose a problem. If you have wireless capabilities make sure to disable that function.

I had this same problem a few years back and can not remember what fixed it. I know I could ping a website so I was connected. My suggestion before you pay is call their tech support again. I can not tell you how many times I spent hours on the phone, gave up and then called one more time only to get a tech who knew what he/she was doing..gl

I had to remove the CA security program that is offered with your Road Runner service. It was affecting my internet use and even my email access or ability to log out.

Assuming you're connecting through a wireless router, does your computer seem to be connecting with the router OK?

Just got back online with my main computer here now.I let a computer guy look at it this morning and not sure but he did something with the connection setup that took about 20 mins to fix.He couldnt believe that the tech guys at road runner didnt advise me on this wed, but anyway im up and running and to top it off he didnt even charge me.A lot faster than the satelite hookup for sure.thanks again for the help guys.(ck)
