College Football Playoffs

The College Football Playoffs, which will feature a four team playoff system will start this season. Playoff Semifinal 1, will be played at the Rose Bowl on January 1, 2015. Playoff Semifinal 2 will be played at the Sugar Bowl, again on January 1. The championship game will be played on January 12, in Arlington, Texas.

Long way until the playoffs but 5Dimes is already offering props on 5 schools that are widely considered contenders.

Florida State (Bet $350 to win $100)
Alabama (Bet $135 to win $100)
Oregon (Bet $100 to win $125)
Ohio State (Bet $100 to win $140)
Oklahoma (Bet $100 to win $150)

What do you think men....are there other teams that should be given strong consideration?

If i had to make a prediction on who wins the SEC i would pick Bama , BUT , i wouldnt make that prediction unless i had to. They certainly shouldn't be considered clear-cut overwhelming favorites.

I also think there's a fair chance that the SEC could get 2 teams in the playoffs

...So due to those 2 reasons i think a couple of other SEC teams should be given strong consideration. (Auburn , S.C , and maybe LSU)

I agree with you Ty on South Carolina's chances.

(IF) the D-Line plays up to SEC standards and (IF) the quarterback plays well.

After three straight 11 win seasons, I'm hearing Spurrier really likes this team's changes to win the SEC East.

Agree with this. QB is one of my biggest question marks for this team going into 2014. Thompson's inconsistency at QB worries me. And SoCar will really miss Shaw's escapability on his legs. I'm not nearly as worried about the DL as most everybody else is. And it's no surprise. Anytime you lose all-world Clowney and all-American Quarles, it's tough to replace. But if there is one area SoCar has been very deep at of late it's on the DL. All of the projected starters have significant playing time, so it's not like they're completely green. And SoCar will incorporate more 3-4 looks in addition to their base 4-2-5. You'll likely see this in passing situations, much like they used to do with their rabbits package. SoCar has so much speed and athleticism at LB, Whammy Ward wants to get more playmakers in coverage and just bring pressure with the front 3, maybe some boundary pressure from an OLB. Could be interesting.

USC, I really don't see Thompson as a weak link to what sould be a stellar offense. He will have some outstanding receivers (Roland, Cooper, Byrd) plus running back Mike Davis who went for 1200 yards last year. Add in an offensive line with four veteran starters for added support. The blueprint (talent and depth) is there for another 11 win season, maybe more. South Carolina has a favorable schedule plus the East Division is still weaker than the West. Win the East and anythink can happen..............

Now that "March Madness" (2014) is coming to and end and the hype is winding-down, we can only begin to speculate what the College Football Play-offs (Circus) will end-up becoming once the "hucksters" and the "money grubbers" grab-hold of the ancillary rights and the TV commercials end-up becoming Super Bowl grade and frequency. I hope the games end-up resembling College Football. I guarantee you, the half-time "shows" will NOT be just the Schools Marching Bands. Pray for the games guys, and hope Caesar and the chariots are banned.

You are right Mack, it will be hyped to the extreme but I'm looking forward to the new setup provided the four best teams get into the playoffs. To me, that's the key to the entire process. As you and I know, not all will be satisfied.

Very good chance that 4 conference champs from the 5 major conferences will participate. Controversy still will prevail, probably on those grounds until an expanded format is adopted. Remember that polls won't be factored in and there will be no BCS poll. It is likely that SOS will be considered strongly with extra emphasis on non-conference games. The selection committee will be mindful of setting a precedent for future years that will improve the face of college football all around.

I think you're spot-on when you say extra emphasis on non con sos. IMO , non con sos will weigh slightly heavier than conference sos.

this is why i think the Big-10 is making a huge mistake playing 9 con games and then playing 3 softies.

The Pac-12 is ok with 9 con games b/c most of the teams still play a decent non con sked , but i think the Big-10 is shooting themselves in the foot with these 3 cupcakes.

I think its safe to say the Big-10 will never get 2 teams in the final 4 , and they "could" likely be ommitted altogether about 30% of the time.

Not all the Big Ten teams are playing a soft non-con. The ones that are will have to shore that up. In the next 4 years Ohio St has Vtech (2) & Oklahoma (2), Wisconsin plays LSU (2) & Alabama. Nebraska plays BYU, Miami & Oregon (2). Michigan St is playing Notre Dame (2) & Oregon (2). Michigan plays Notre Dame, Utah, Oregon St, BYU, Colorado, Florida.

I guess that is the stereotype going around, but not sure it has that much merit, at least for the teams that have the stronger chances to make the playoff.

Yes, hopefully they continue to improve some other areas as well. Night games in November (this year) and finally euthanizing grandpa Rose Bowl.

I hate to be so out-of-the loop and uninformed but i've got a question.

Does this playoff committee just have to come to a consensus agreement on who the top 4 teams are , or do they also use a specific protocol to seed them 1-4 ?

I guess what i'm asking is , if there is a pac-12 team and a sec team in the final 4 would they automatically send the sec to new orleans and the pac-12 to pasadena , or is there a strict seeding process that makes it just luck and happenstance ?

they will seed them 1-4. i don't believe there is a specific protocol....just a bunch of fucknuts sitting in a room chatting. They'll meet a bunch of times during the season and will reseed the teams after each meeting but the seeding will not be publicly disclosed until the end. A current AD of a school in the mix can talk about teams in his conference but not specifically HIS team

Thanks Roll. ...I'm starting to get excited about this , the prospect for pregnant dogs is even greater now than under the old system , i can't wait. (i just hope i'm not one of em).
