Heading in to this year’s bowl season, there is no denying that the lineup of NCAA football games will each have a decidedly different taste than the rest, although the common theme throughout is that this year’s BCS Championship game projects to be the lowest-scoring of them all. However, while the national title is likely to be decided in a defensive showdown, the same cannot be said for this year’s Rose Bowl and Fiesta Bowl.

The Badgers were one of the hottest teams to close out the year, including a Big Ten Championship win with a Heisman trophy finalist spearheading their offensive attack in running back Montee Ball. The numbers that Ball was able to put up were ridiculous regardless of the conference that he played in, as he finished with 1,759 rushing yards and 32 touchdowns on the year. The Ducks meanwhile have a ton running back of their own in LaMichael James, who despite running for 1,646 yards and 17 touchdowns actually averaged more yards per carry than Ball. Wisconsin and Oregon finished with the third and fourth ranked offenses respectively, and that should make for a ton of points in this year’s Rose Bowl as the sports betting underdogs cover.

A double-overtime loss at Iowa State kept the Cowboys from getting their chance at a shot in the BCS Championship game, but a win over the Cardinal in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl wouldn’t be a bad alternative by any means for the Big 12 champions. The Cardinal couldn’t beat Oregon in the PAC-12 showdown, but for the most part were able to beat up on a weak conference with quarterback Andrew Luck carrying the offensive load. Oklahoma State has a star quarterback of its own in Brandon Weeden, who has made the most of his connection with top receiver Just Blackmon.

Alabama head coach Nick Saban has to still be frustrated when thinking back to the four missed field goals that cost his team in their first meeting of the year, and the pay head bookies aren’t the only ones that understand that is unlikely to happen again. The Crimson Tide enter this game with the top-ranked defense, and one of the best running backs in the country in Trent Richardson, who gets one last shot to prove his merit before reaching the NFL draft. LSU’s defense should keep this game close, but in the end Alabama has the more powerful offense and this time it will show as long as they can connect on their field goal opportunities.
