I don't know if any of you guys are old enough to remember when these scandals were exposed, gamblers approaching these dirt poor kids with $1,000 Bribes (big money back then) not to throw the outcome of the game but "shave" enough points so as to not cover the point spread (a 12 point favorite winning by 6 or 7), one top player could easily control that point production (or non-production) with no 30 second clocks, or 3 point plays and one-and-one free throws back then.. The schools (New York City area), Manhattan, CCNY (Now CUNY), LIU (long Island University) along with Kentucky, Toledo and Bradley in the mid-west, all basketball powers back then were charged by the district attorneys (College basketball was rocked at its foundation....took years to recover, except for Kentucky, the other schools never recovered.

Could something like this happen in NFL today ? Probably not, too much scrutiny today and with all the players lucratively paid, how big would the bribe have to be.......Could the owners and other key actors in the game pull off a conspiracy controlling the outcome of a high profile game, I think it would take more than the "Ocean's 11" gang to pull it off...........It certainly would make for one great movie script.

First off, in the NFL, its entertainment and the players work for the NFL (sure they have "players union" but theyre still employed by NFL) so its not bribery. It's incentive based.

Totally different scenarios.

Point shaving has existed in College since the beginning. Tulane (New Orleans College) was famous for shaving points. Very simple to shave points. Head Coach can call plays that keep hinder his offense from scoring. (Ex. 3rd and 9 and Run Play) Another thing is College kids make up a large % of bettors. Mommy and Daddy's money well spent. What about college players who are high profile and are gamblers? They owe their bookie...oh? you cant repay? It's NO PROBLEM at ALL! Just do this for me during the game....

Yep[, we all know Greenbacks is almost as old as I am.....I hope he is still alive......LOL.
Us older guys have to watch for those typo's......Seriously, I do remember when the point shaving scandals occurred in "1951", they were really bad....College basketball
got hit hard,,,,,Adolph Rupp was coaching the Wildcats then, rumors said he first tried to cover up the scandal....Bill Spivey was one of the boys on the take,
