The following article was a JOY for me to read............

Join the club, Alabama and Georgia. And Virginia Tech is welcome, too.

That was the message Monday from Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville, who spoke at the Montgomery Quarterback Club's noon luncheon two days after watching his team's 13-game SEC winning streak come to an end at Baton Rouge.

Tuberville, whose team was shut out of the BCS national title game last season, was asked if he thought the same thing might happen to an SEC school again this year. That got him started on the Bowl Championship Series system and the national media, particularly ESPN.

"It's done," Tuberville said. "The national media, led by ESPN, wants to see Vince Young vs. Matt Leinart in the championship game. It's going to be those two teams unless Texas or USC get upset.

"Last year, they wanted to see the two Heisman Trophy quarterbacks, Jason White and Leinart. After six or seven games, we were out of it.

"If four teams are undefeated at the end of the season, there should be a playoff. There should've been one last year. But it's decided already. I don't like it."

Tuberville spoke out sharply against ESPN and the influence it wields on the college game. He said the opinions ESPN hosts and analysts put out on the airwaves each week tend to shape the opinions of fans and media people around the country.

And he's not at all happy about that.

"ESPN has gotten so much power lately, it's kinda scary," Tuberville said. "And most of their analysts are coaches who haven't won any games. That's why they're there. I think you know who I'm talking about.

"And Lou Holtz gets on there and talks about what a team has to do to win that game, and the guy couldn't beat anybody in our conference. These guys will come talk to you and look you straight in the eye and tell you something, then they'll get on the air and say something else.

"ESPN, I'll tell you, I don't have much to do with them anymore."

I say fuck ESPN/ABC in the ass with a rubber dick

I love it! Most media people have no fucing clue as to what they are talking about and that goes for the announcers as well. You have a lot of people on this website and countless others like it who know a hell of a lot more than the media, the announcers and most of the coaches that are out there. Finally someone is out there speaking the truth. Funny thing, though, is that I did not see that on the ESPN website or hear on any of their b/s channels or being discussed by any of their 'brilliant' analysts.

Tips my hat to Tommy for telling it like it really is.

Coaches that can't win have a union to get on Tv and half time add little to nothing about the damn game... Bill Curry,,, that sob is still talkig about his days in the NFL,,, while at UK told us that Alexander could play in the Sec. I guess he couldn't play but sure play in the NFL..

Old Lou is biggest conman around

But what really piss me off is there arer people on this site know more and could add tons to a boardcast while these bastards make big bucks >>> ya got to love america,,,

just my two cents here,,,as the old cat roars "WAR EAGLE"

Honestly, I don't blame ESPN/ABC as much as I blame the NCAA and the BCS.

If the convicts are running the prison, do you blame the convicts, or the warden and the governor? Of course the convicts are going to run wild if you let them, and of course ABC and ESPN are going to try and work the deal that's closest to what they think benefits them most. And the NCAA and the BCS have allowed this to happen.

The NCAA and the BCS have shown ZERO leadership or willingness to perfect the system.

After the 2003 season, the NCAA and the BCS could have stood up against the criticism and argued that the system worked - because it did. The numbers and facts bear that out. A few tweaks after the season was over would have been helpful, but the system worked. And NOBODY said that. Nobody defended the system or LSU's title. They simply caved to the demands of the national media, giving the human polls more weight and making the computer polls (the one non-biased component of the equation) a non-factor. You reap what you sow, and now NOBODY has any respect for the system.
