Nice job by Tortorella, but how could they not give the coach of the year to Ron Wilson? The vote isn't based on the playoffs right? The Lightning made it to the second round of the playoffs last year and won a couple games against the eventual champs. The Sharks were one of the worst teams in the league last year and lost their stars in the process. They started off slowly and all looked lost, yet they ended up number 2 in a difficult conference...all because of Wilson coming in and putting in a great system and keeping his players in their roles. If that wasn't a coach of the year performance then nothing is and they shouldn't even bother with the award. Ridiculous.

better yet - how does vezina NOT go to luongo. brodeur had a solid season - but luongo set a record for most shots faced - and should have gotten it. marty's not a bad choice - just not the best one.

One reason Brodeur faces less shots is because he plays the puck so well. As a Devils fan I have to honestly say I thought Luongo shouldv'e won it this year.

I got so worked up about the coach I missed that one

Yeah Luongo was awesome in a year of mostly middling goalie play. This was not that great a Brodeur year and it carried into the playoffs; a pure reputation call.

With regards to the coach...How the heck did Sutter not win!? He took a team that was nothing and hadn't made the playoffs for 7 years and took them all the way to the cup finals. Just because a team wins the cup, doesn't mean that their coach is the best.

Brodeur doesn't face many shots because of the style his team plays. Florida is just a bad team, thus being the reason he broke the record for most shots against. But still, Luongo did play good, but I still think Marty was the right call here, because he actually helped his team win. However it would be a different story altogether if Kipper would have played the whole year

if the voting was done during or even after the playoffs sutter would have won. but it was done after the reg season ended and before the playoffs ended. calgary was the #6 seed in the (compared to the east conf) inferior conference while TB was the #1 seed (#2 overall) in the east conference. i have no problem with "Torts" winning it and actually would have placed sutter 3rd behind ron wilson who took a joke of a team last year to the #2 seed overall in the west. again - this is a reg season award - NOT post-season!

Inferior conference?!

TB is in the WORST division in the NHL. That's why they got so many points in the regular season. I'm not saying they are a bad team or anything but gees...the next best team in that division was Atlanta with 78 points...I mean come on!

Also, Sutter took a team who had not won a playoff series in 15 YEARS! You are saying that's not much of an accomplishment??

as Mr. NJ pointed out it is for the regular season only. the flames had gone 7 years w/o a post-season appearance and if they went "4-and-out" NO ONE would have rallied so hard for sutter - and if bertuzzi was allowed to play - i think the can(f)ucks would have won the series. regardless, Torts was a solid choice.

now - i live in CA. i am a west coast homer to no end. but the east conference's top teams were better than the west's top teams and TB was the top team in the Top conference.

It is a regular season award and no doubt about it Ron Wilson deserved it. Any insider would tell you as much, the team was in shambles even in the first month and he completely turned it around. He got young guys to live up to potential and older guys to be leaders. And they finished only a few points behind the Lightning, but Tortorella had a lot more going for him this season including a nice playoff run last year. The Sharks were the second worse team in the conference and lost their best offensive player. How the job Wilson did this year wasn't the best for a coach is a joke.
