CBS Broadcasting Inc., riding the wave of the Janet Jackson fiasco, is taking aim at anyone and everyone. Their most recent attack is focusing on the popular online sportsbook, CasaBlanca, located in Costa Rica.

Casa looks a different but still the same....

Valued Customer,

We would like to thank all of you, our valued customers, for your positive and supportive feedback during the recent unfortunate issue with CBS Broadcasting Inc., and their crude attempts to force us to relinquish our betcbs.com domain.

In view of this unpleasant situation, we have decided that it is in the best interests of our players, and our business as a whole, to move forward with an innovative and practical contingency plan. This decision for us was simple. First of all, we do not want to subject our many good customers to what is, at best, unnecessary aggravation. Secondly, we have no interest in wasting our time and resources battling it out with CBS.

We feel that at least one of us will be taking the BS out of CBS. We remain steadfast in our commitment to you and in providing you with uninterrupted personal service, and a continuing safe, secure and entertaining offshore gaming experience. To fulfill this commitment, we have already built and launched a new brand we are confident will endure for a long time to come, and will avoid the unwelcome attention of other insensitive corporate giants.

We are proud to announce the launch of our new flagship, www.wagerweb.com. Many of you may already recognize the new name as we have owned and managed this domain for over seven years.

Concurrently, BetCBS has evolved into a strong and efficient gaming management company. Now Casablanca Gaming, (www.BetCG.com) we have grown into a staff of over 250 professionals, who earnestly provide management, technical, operational, financial, and marketing support to over 150 online gaming properties.

Though there are changes in our names, there is one thing that you can continue to count on: Casablanca Gaming is on solid ground and will continue to provide you with the ever-improving level of service you deserve. There are great things to come.

Thank You,

Dave Johnson.

Casablanca would be foolhardy to battle CBS in court over this...

Had they NOT violated the patent law and copied CBS'S brand name, they would NOT be in this mess...

I do NOT feel sorry for Casablanca and what goes around come around...

Try making it on your own guys!

Casablanca will be changing their website soon i'm sure! You can't fight and win against a corporation like CBS! Hell their is a Diner in Newburgh that was named Lexus Diner, well Lexus sued and they had to change to ALEXUS instead! I knew a guy who opened a Pizzeria named Sophia's and claimed Sophia Loren was part owner and would be their occasionally! Well her publicist got wind of this and threatened a lawsuit if he went threw with this bullshit! Its all bout marketing and if you need someone else's name to market your business you are a loser to begin with! No faith in your self! How bout 1st Fidelity, why are they allowed to use that name??? Any answers??

I don't know anyone at Casa or deal with them but I wish them well. Good decision. Just like my decision a few years ago- NOT to watch CBS !

Big Corporations don't always win.
In Portland, Oregon, there was a steak house called Black Angus which had been there for years. Well when the huge giant black Angus proudly put up their Black Angus sign the case went to court. the tiny restuarant won the case and Black Angus had to change their name to Stuart Anderson's Black Angus.

Shrink if anybody would know, I guess you would. I made the following post on the other thread but it seems to be getting lost in the pokerr java ivan shuffle on the other thread. Here is what I said

I'm confused. I've read Casablanca's press release and the article about CBS Broadcasting Inc. flexing their muscles against Casablanca. Did the television giant actually file a suit against the book or just send Dave Johnson a cease and desist email. Dave doesn't strike me as the type to back down over a threatening email, especially after he took on the whole forum trying to justify not paying areef way back when. Is it possible that Casa is just trying to generate publicity and the broadcasting giant isn't even in contact with Dave trying to steal his URL. After all last time I checked BETCBS still forwards to wagerweb. I don't really know what's going on but I haven't come across any press releases from the tv giant or any statements issued by their attorneys.

Can you shed any light on this observation or am I just reading between the lines too much?

Paula,

I suppose when Casablanca changed to BETCBS, it was merely a councidence that it matched with CBS and its logo...

Shrink,

My basic question was: is there any evidence of this big corporate attack against Casablanca other than Casablanca's press release? I haven't seen any press releases from the tv giant or any statements issued by their sttorneys. Is there any evidence that this originated from a source other than Casablanca.

paula & Java,

Rio had to forfeit its website after litigation. This is a very similar scenario and even if it isn't Public yet, I suspect that CBS (not the sports book) would prevail...

WHEN THE EPILOG ON THE OFFSHORES IS WRITTEN IT IS GOING TO BE JERKIES LIKE THESE BETCBS GUYS WHO ARE GOING TO BE THE MOST CULPABLE.

BEST THING ANY BM CAN DO IS PAY ALL BETS, SHUN ATTENTION AND DON'T FUKK AROUND.

POOR JUDGMENT CALLS BY BETCBS WILL ULTIMATELY HURT ENTIRE INDUSTRY.

Shrink,

So there is no proof that the broadcasting giant is attacking Casablanca other than Casablanca's press release???????

Shrink-
So, if I understand you correctly..
1) betRio lost a similar suit to the real Rio.
2) CBS's suit is either still only a threat or just not public yet.
3) Casablanca got caught with its pants around its ankles once again.
