What are the prospects for an American with extensive casino (table games, poker) experience looking for a job in Costa Rica?
I am giving serious thought to going overseas for a few years and would appreciate any feedback.

from what I have seen (A friend of mine is a dealer here in CR) the wages are not very good and you might end up having to work far far away in a hotel on the beach or something (not that its bad or anything)

Sad to say your best shot at a decent wage that will allow you to have fun is to look for a management position at a casino/poker room/sportsbook online site

I am not saying that there are no jobs in a landbased casino with a decent wage, but the numbers of available positions must be quite low and you would have to speak spanish quite fluently

a fairly experienced egaming manager could make 3-4k/month (that would be my estimate for a large operation, smaller operations probably pay between 2-3k at most )

wolfie is rigth...
but 2 or 3k is a huuuuuge payment down here...

anyways if you have a vast of experience in the show bussiness and.. if you're patient, i'll recommend you to be a telemarketer in this Betting Industry... with your english, and experience, you could make at least 150k this football season... if you work with a large base book..

I am not interested in doing phone-based sales.
What I am looking for is a supervisor or management-type position in a casino or poker room. I do not have sportsbook experience and am not looking for that.
I am looking at some places in Asia as well.

GD, there are probably five casinos in all of CR worthy of your time and I am sure if they had an opening the line would be out the door. There are lots of little casinos around, but really do you want to work in a place that has maybe 2 or 3 tables going at once? I did meet a few of the hosts at the Horseshoe, probably the nicest place around when you consider the "distractions" of working the casino in the Del Rey. Anyways those guys are very experienced. One didn't want me to reveal where he had worked just in case he decides to go back to Nevada to work, but lets just say 13 years as a casino host in a major LV Strip casino. He had semi-retired at a young age and then got drawn into the job there thinking it would be temporary vacation-type thing. Next thing you know he is married to a Tica and happy with a salary that is less than half what he made before.

If you really want something different, just spread your wings and work the pavement in another jurisdiction. Tahoe usually has lots of openings as most people just treat it as a stop on their journey to something else. Since you are already a Nevada guy that will open many doors for you as the licensing and backgrounds are tough, as I am sure you know, for out of staters. Down in Mississippi there are many openings for managers, another place I hear that gets a ton of turnover and definitely is a change from Vegas.

Best of luck, there surely has to be something out there for you sir...

WildBill,
just contemplating and checking out the options right now. Didn't think CR had a great deal to offer, but wanted some opinions. Not interested in most other places in the US, definitely not Mississippi or down south. Just getting some feelers right now.

First of all, do you speak spanish? Also, one thing is having experience in a real live casino and another thing is managing an online company. You may have a lot of experience but not with internet thus not making you an appropriate candidate.

What you could be good for is working as a consultant for online casinos and poker rooms. Right there, your experience would be very beneficial.
