Dave I worded that all wrong, I can admit it.
I mean on the political spectrum. What does that mean to be a 'conservative'. Is it strictly a small government belief, where they have very little power and ask for very little of our money? To me , watching things like the patriot act and the Iraq 'war' be passed off as conservative ideals just doesn't sell me on it. They seem quite expensive and intrusive. That is just for starters.
Is it a belief in a strong military and strong family values?! What is it exactly. I have seen many posters here describe it in different ways.
No worries mate. What does that mean to be a 'conservative'. Is it strictly a small government belief, where they have very little power and ask for very little of our money? I couldn’t have said it better. Stay the hell out of our lives as much as possible and quit fucking things up. I think we as Americans (contrary to popular belief by some posters) are perfectly capable of handling our own affairs without Government sticking it nose where it doesn’t belong. As for the patriot act, other than screwing up air travel I see nothing intrusive about it for the average law abiding American. As for the Iraq war I look at it from a big picture stand point.
There is no question the government screwed to pooch by not foreseeing an oil crisis. Look at the Carter administration. That should have opened our eyes but it didn’t. If there is turmoil in the ME and oil is cut off we are dead in the water. For what it’s worth I think the current administration recognized that and took appropriate action. I don’t buy the free Iraq bull, it’s all about the oil. Is it a belief in a strong military and strong family values?! What is it exactly. IMHO, strong military? Absolutely. Strong family values? I’ll admit I’m a little confused on that one. If everyone took care of their family the term family values would be moot. I will say this, socialism is not my cup of tea. To think we can all sit in a circle, sing kumbaya and live happily ever after is naïve. :toast:
