OZONE PARK, N.Y. - Racing resumes Thursday after a two-day break with a pick-six carryover of $34,817. Feeling lucky? Here are plays of $64 and $192 for those who want to take a shot:
Race 4: The new shooter Precise Strike is by Precise End, last year's leading first-crop New York-bred sire, and out of a Phone Trick mare - in other words, speed on top of speed.
If It's Meant to B is marginally best among the experienced runners, as long as she gets a fast racetrack. She blew out swiftly last Sunday, 11 days after an against-the-bias effort to finish second.
Those two are on the $64 ticket.
The $192 ticket adds Juliams Jade, a half-length behind If It's Meant to B recently, and second-time starter Distinctive Flag, who gets Lasix after racing greenly first out.
If Precise Strike is being absolutely pounded at the windows, it might be best to call an audible and trim out Juliams Jade and Distinctive Flag and look to add more fringe contenders in another leg.
Race 5: Glittering Racket couldn't hold on to his lead on a speed-friendly surface last out, but the 10-time winner is always a threat and has won before without the early lead.
Vroom Hilda has been a gem of consistency on fast tracks and is being raised aggressively by Scott Lake after running through a speed bias to win from off the pace Feb. 3.
This is a good spot to add more back-ups as affordability allows.
Race 6: The single, whether it be for $64 or $192, is Graded by Results, one of several who battled for the lead in a Jan. 20 maiden special weight route and the only one who was anywhere close at the wire. Three of his most dangerous rivals have already lost for $32,000 or less.
Race 7: The small and large tickets will try to navigate through this leg using Coded Princess, who drops to an easier spot and zipped a fast half-mile work last week, and Perfectly Quiet, whose only two-turn dirt start was a horrible trip in a restricted stakes. Race 8: Again, using two runners on small and large tickets. Coeus and Niadhas were separated by less than a length after a foggy 1 3/16 miles last time out, a route effort that makes them stand out here. Race 9: The $64 play uses Golden Trieste and Siddartha, the fastest of these maiden claimers. The $192 ticket also uses Sailwind, a second-time starter dropping from $50,000 to $25,000 after a wide debut.
