You know Roy Williams and many followers say it is the defense that is missing that allows these comebacks on Carolina

I think it is COACHING

If you are going to run a high power offense, then you need to know how to run your bench, regardless of the Fab 3

Louisville does it, and that is why their current success

I am surprised Roy Williams is not taking control here........maybe by tourney time he will real this in

Always enjoy your takes, but in this case I differ. Roy Williams is fighting a system, that discourages any coaches
(especially those at new schools) to develope programs, systems, etc in minimal time. Their defense has been below Roy's expectations. He knows that, all too well. On Oct. 15 he began a new regime. He has 20 "hands on hours" per week to implement his philosophy with the personnel on hand. Ask Bill Self, Ben Howland, Tommy Amaker, Oliver Purnell, Pete Gillen, Dave Odom etc. how easy it is! Can't identify too many new coaches (excluding assistants) who have turned the tables in 1st season. It is just too complex of a transition.

fridge,

I agree with everything you are saying, and you are right it does take time to develop a defensive strategy, but

I am surprised he is feeling the pressure to keep this starting line up playing so many minutes, and being responsible for over 80% of the teams scoring. Roy became famous at Kansas for having sharp shooters off the bench.

This team looks identicle to Doherty's teams

Tired and worn our from running and gunning

Also May looks so out of shape, where is the pressure from coaching to get him in better shape

Just my follow up

I personally don't think May is suited to Roy's offensive up tempo. Most of his points come in the 1/2 ct. sets with the block isolations and Hi-Low post ups. I agree, that May looks very fleshy. More than likely, this kid was an overgrown little pudgy boy & unlikely his body type will change any time soon. So again , Roy has to deal with the hands on board, while trying to implement his X's & O's philosophy. Their depth has to be better, than what we are seeing. Roy has yet to feel confident and no doubt will address issue with staff & players soon. Roy, as always, puts a tremendous amount of pressure on himself. He doesn't see himself as replacing Doherty or Gutheridge. He is coaching in his
mentor's "Dome" and I hope he finds a way to enjoy the journey.

I have to BRING this thread back

The MAIN PROBLEM with carolina is MAY

He is FAT overweight lazy ass, He is not that good, and the media has been licking his ass for two years now. He is actually one of the worst big men CArolina has had in years. He is not in the class of McCants or Felton, and he will be a Salemen when he gets out of college.

He is never in shape. You can tell he hates basketball, no emotion, and lungs. Guy looks like he starving for AIR in every game.

Roy Williams is saying, I would not have this guy as a practice player!!!

Not to totally disagree with you guys, but I have know Sean May for several years.

I am not saying he is in great shape, but...

If you paid ANY attention last year you would have seen that...

What ever his case and condition NOW, he is in FAR better shape and carrying FAR less weight right now than he did last year.

I think his problem is like so many others. He has been wined, dined, and worshipped by the shits that run AAU teams over the years. He has that swagger that says "hey look at me... I am a Tarheel and I am not even working that hard at this".

This half-assed attitude is quite common amoung NCAA players.
