Is he really going to have that many people there to see him on a nightly basis? He's a legend, sure, just not sure he can sell that much, but maybe.

Being from the Bay Area and seeing Carlos in small venues such as the Santa Cruz Civic he draws well as to the Hispanics and us wasp.

If he's smart he would have a different act for each night of the week ala The Greatful Dead, thus repeat patrons.

The Dead had seven different shows, they just had to keep track of what day of the week it was............

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — President Barack Obama brushed off a question about legalizing marijuana in his online town hall last month, but guitar god Carlos Santana says he wishes he would seriously consider it.

"Legalize marijuana and take all that money and invest it in teachers and in education," Santana said in an interview this week. "You will see a transformation in America."

During his online town hall on March 26, Obama fielded a question about whether legalization of the illicit drug would help pull the nation out of recession. Obama said he didn't think it was good economic policy, and also joked: "I don't know what this says about the online audience."

But Santana said making pot legal is "really way overdue, like the prohibition with the alcohol and stuff like that.

"I really believe that as soon as we legalize and decriminalize marijuana we can actually afford a really good governor who won't keep taking money away from education and from teachers and send him back to Hollywood where he can do 'D' movies and we can get an 'A' governor," referring to former movie action hero and California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Santana made the comments as he was promoting his upcoming rock residency in Las Vegas at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The show debuts May 27 and runs through 2010.

"It's a milestone for me because I always said I would never do certain things," Santana said, adding that the list included staying in one place for too long.

"Yet what is very different is this is the year I decided to do all the things that I said I would never do. It's a way of coming into a room that I thought was dark and I would be afraid and I actually bring my light to it."

Santana, whose hits vary from "Evil Ways" to "Maria Maria," said he is also working on two upcoming albums.

While the 61-year-old has previously talked about a possible retirement, he's decided to be more careful about predicting the future.

"Every time I tell God my plans he cracks up, he starts laughing. So I just decided to be quiet for a while and not say that I am going to retire and go to Maui and become a minister," he said. "God was cracking up. He thought it was a good joke. So I said, 'OK.' Every time I want to make him laugh I tell him my plans. So we'll see."

APPROVES......

i'm not a santana fan, but what about coldplay hosing him on that song of theirs.

-there's no doubt they/or whoever wrote that for them ripped that from santana.
-he was suing them a few mths ago. wonder if that is pending.

Carlos Santana will be setting up shop in Las Vegas this May through a multi year agreement with concert promotion company AEG Live.

Beginning May 27, the recently opened 4,007-capacity Joint in Las Vegas "will be the only place west of the Mississippi" where fans will be able to watch Santana perform live through 2010, according to a news release from AEG Live. The musician will perform about 36 concerts per year at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino venue, which is exclusively booked by AEG Live.

Tickets for the shows will range from $79-$299 and can be purchased at the Hard Rock Hotel box office and through Ticketmaster. Tickets for performances through September went on sale today (April 1).

"Bringing Santana to the Joint at Hard Rock elevates the entertainment options in Las Vegas," John Meglen, president and co-CEO of AEG Live/Concerts West said in a statement. "AEG Live set the standard for major residency shows in Vegas with Celine, Elton, Cher and Bette over at the Colosseum, and now we are setting the standard for rock and roll residencies with this new deal."

Santana's arena and amphitheater tour in 2008 grossed $15.6 million from 38 concerts that attracted nearly 390,000 concertgoers, according to Billboard Boxscore.

The Supernatural Santana: A Trip Through the Hits concerts will find the musician performing a wide range of songs throughout his career, including "Jingo," "Evil Ways" and "Into the Night," among many others. Santana will be accompanied on stage by band members Chester Thompson (keyboards), Karl Perazzo (timbales), Benny Rietveld (bass), Dennis Chambers (drums), Raul Rekow (congas), Andy Vargas (vocals), Tony Lindsay (vocals), Tommy Anthony (rhythm guitar), Jeff Cressman (trombone) and Bill Ortiz (trumpet).

Frank The Plumber, who designed the tour set for Madonna's recent Sticky & Sweet trek, will create stage design and production of Santana's Las Vegas residency.

Meanwhile, the old Joint closed its doors in early February with back-to-back concerts by Motley Crue. As part of Hard Rock's $800 million expansion in Vegas, the new Joint is twice the size of the old venue and features state-of-the-art lighting and sound, along with seven VIP suites. Hard Rock's expansion includes two new hotel towers, as well as new restaurants, retail and entertainment space.
