How about high school teams that have the nickname Redskins. Try on Tulare Union High School they are the proud home of the Redskins. Or how about Chowchilla High School another California school the proud home of the Redskins.

The point is the government has way more on it's hands to deal with than a nickname of a pro football team. They "threaten" the tax exempt status of the NFL. What are they going to do with these high schools, take their food subsidies?

+1 but it still doesn't negate the fact that the name "RED-SKIN" is offensive by nature, they don't have teams called "BLACK-SKINS" nor do they have YELLOW-SKINS or WHITE-SKINS. While I do agree that most of this country and probably the world has gone over the edge with political correctness I can not say that the name "RED-SKINS" is not offensive.
I really think if a public school or any institution that receives TAX money they should not have a team name that is blatantly offensive. Its not a hidden message that one can claim someone is reading to much into, its right there in 8 little letters. Maybe when the states start honoring treaties they made with these different tribes across the country then maybe they will stop bitching over a name. Cant expect them not to be pissed off when they are still getting pissed on !!

The team started in 1932 as the Boston Braves when they later went on to play at Fenway Park they changed their name to the Boston Redskins. They relocated to Washington DC in 1937 and have been the Washington Redskins since.

Basically for 80 years they have been nicknamed the Redskins. It's their team history. They don't use the name in a disparaging way at all. They celebrate it.

Generally when tolerance of others begins. And remember its only an agenda if you disagree with it, if you agree with it then its a belief. While I feel the religious right has an agenda and is pushing it down our throats I don't pretend to think they don't have belief's and unfortunately they go hand in hand.
I also agree that the Gov't should be worried about other things like the deficit and our lagging education system ... In the words of Elwood Blues "I say Take that archaic Monroe Doctrine, and that Marshall Plan that says we're supposed to police force the world, and throw 'em out!
