MONTREAL - Canadiens captain Saku Koivu will be sidelined three-to-four weeks after spraining a ligament in his right knee during an exhibition game.

He could be back for Montreal's season opener Oct. 9 at Ottawa.

Koivu was jammed against the boards by Ottawa's Todd White on Saturday. He left the game in the second period and had an MRI scan the next day.

"The good thing is that I shouldn't miss any regular-season games," he said Monday. "But if I do, well, that's just the way it is."

Koivu has had two major operations on his left knee.

This sucks, virtually every year something has to happen to Koivu....Of course it would matter, he was their leding scorer last year.

Yes, but the team in general is hurting badly and it doesn't look like there is anything coming down the pipes. I would like to see the Leafs and Habs in a playoff series more than anyone, but it doesn't look good.

This is not to say the Buds look stellar either. Probably the same as last year - maybe a little better during reg. season.

I doubt Saku is upset at all and calling himself unlucky, after everyone, including all doctors thought he would be dead. The kid had cancer and was dying and miraculously, not only survived, but is playing hockey again. Talk about how his life changed. I am sure he appreciates life so much now, so a sprained knee is probably something he is laughing at now, compared to the cancer that almost took his life. So saying he's unlucky is not right. Saku probably thinks he's the luckiest man alive..

The Habs haven't had this much coming down the pipes in years.
