MONTREAL - Canadiens captain Saku Koivu will be sidelined three-to-four weeks after spraining a ligament in his right knee during an exhibition game.
He could be back for Montreal's season opener Oct. 9 at Ottawa.
Koivu was jammed against the boards by Ottawa's Todd White on Saturday. He left the game in the second period and had an MRI scan the next day.
"The good thing is that I shouldn't miss any regular-season games," he said Monday. "But if I do, well, that's just the way it is."
Koivu has had two major operations on his left knee.
