Ok heres the situation....$110 entry..200 entries...Tournament is 5 MINUTES into action. Already up $5000 in chips (w/ AK only hand played, after 4 hands) after starting @10,000. 1st to act bets 1000(100/200 blinds) ..Next to act is ME with AA I raise to 3000. every one folds til next to dealer, and he goes all in and He has me covered by 500 chips! The Guy who began the action with the $1000 Chip Bet folds.

Do you put your tournament life on the line? ...When its very early and there are like 2 people out?....Reason I ask, is because I am against this sort of move.....Even though I KNOW i have him beat...Im here to win some money and I would prefer to not let some ******* controll my tourney...I put him on at best on KK.....Even if hes bluffing, lets say ...72 off.....There is still the CHANCE(small albeit) off a him flopping sets or a boat...And his ******* is still playing and Im out, Where as if I would have just forget about my 3000 raise and folded the AA, and tell myself there is a first for everything and continue in the tourney....With the Coinfidence of Me being a superior player by laying down AA.....

I feel that even though this is a weak move, I would been smarter to FOLD instead of calling( Hindsight, of course)....He had 10 10 and on the Flop came a 10....Then I was A Goner.

Just Wondering...

go all in get a chip lead and push people around ;) ...... you cant make it to frist without going all in might as well start early than you getting pushed around later with bigger chip stacks

You should call that all-in approximately 100 out of 100 times. Even against 2 players who had me covered I'd push 'em in. Man, there's nothing better than having someone else go all-in when you have AA. If 3+ players who have you covered go all-in, then it just depends on whether you want to gamble or not, because you're only 50% to win with 3 other players in the pot. You just took a bad beat, that's all, but you can never feel bad about getting knocked out of a tourney when you get your chips in with AA.

only spot i muck is if the wsop pays 226 people i have AA as a shortstack with 3 people in a raised pot that puts me in and im barely out of the money. it has to be a 5k or 10k buy in event

Only reason to fold would be on the bubble, where your investment risk in buy-in is so great that you need some money back. You will always have the best of it, no matter against who, and chances are the odds are significantly in your favor. Shake off the bad beat and the odds will play out over the long run.

well done maheha, cant argue with a man who backs up what he says with cold hard facts......good post

but to clarify, 85% is only when its 1-1 not 1 on 2 or greater, right?!

Im not actually sure how much the percentages differ from heads up or multi-way, I think it takes into consideration a certain number of "most common" hands. Of course, if it is up against two hands or more, and one person has an ace, then obviously it goes down. But I am positive that it is for heads up all in. I will try and find out how much it changes based on multiple opponents, or rather if that could ever be figured out. It sounds complicated.

And so it goes......

If your gonna get beat, get beat with pocket rockets. Nobody could ever question your judgement to make the all-in call, but would certainly question the choice to fold with that strong of a hand. It doesn't make any sense to fold an AA pre-flop. No matter what. No rationale in the world could convince me otherwise.

still you gotta think your AA is still strong and that 85% chance gets slightly reduced if another A or Aces are in the other pockets. There's a chance to triple your chip count if others are all-in in front of you. I think folding pocket rockets is inconceivable and doing so tells me this individual plays scared. Scared $ never wins and in no-limit hold-em, you cannot play scared.

Folding AA preflop has nothing to do with being scared, it has to do with your best interest. Say your in a tournment, the world series for example. There is 50 players and number 49 gets paid $50,000 and 50th gets their money back (10g) Say your in the top 15 in chips size, and two larger stacks are in front of you, and youre on the button. The first to act (a moderate chip stack) goes all in. the players fold until it gets to one of the larger chip stacks, he goes all in, and the guy behind him(who has more chips than you) calls. Now its up to you, two guys are all in, and one guy is putting you all in. (4 total players) you have AA. What do you do? Fold, why risk the money to enlarge your stack, its not worth the risk to come in 50th place... Its easier to let them battle it out with no worries and knowing that you just made 40g by not playing your hand...thats when you fold AA preflop...

You were only in the tourney for 5 minutes, odds were way against you before you even entered the tournment and probably even after 5 minutes. Now you have odds in your favor and there is even a question?

well first off, i didnt mean 50 players from the start, i meant 50 players left, and who says the odds arent in my favor? I know that if im in that position and three guys go all in before me, folding guarentees me at least 40g more than i would get if i risk playing AA. 100 percent guarentee is more favorable then 75-80 percent

Very knowledgable players, that why I love this place!

The Main thing that hurt my feelings was, I just KNEW I was beat before I called, AND EVEN tho the odds were stacked in my favor( heavily I might add)...I had a gut feeling and didnt listen.. Shame on me.
