I posted this in the nascar forum, but hoping somebody here might be able to help faster:

Hi, sorry if this is obvious, but Im new to Nascar wagering. I took Jeff Burton over Mark Martin in qualifying matchups on Friday. Im looking at the results of the race which was postponed at Sportsline, and it says Jeff Burton started at #38 and Mark martin started at #39, so wouldnt this mean Jeff Burton won? Thanks for any help you can provide.

NO!!

Starting posts can be brought down to this level if a driver is penalized in anyway before the race starts.

they may have both used provisionals at that low a level, which means there times did not qualify, i.e. weren't fast enough.

nascar.com has the lineup posted after qualifying, and will note who took provisional spots.

i could be wrong but i believe qualifying takes up 1-36, with the rest being provisionals
