Let's hear it for all you posters that call yourselves vets. I know Wil is one but are there others?

Myself:

USAF 1998-Present

Also, I posted this at my other home but I highly encourage you to rent the DVD "Taking Chance" staring Kevin Bacon. The film is about a Marine Lt. Col. (played by Bacon) that volunteers to meet the body of a fallen Marine when it arrives stateside and escort the body to his final resting place.

Trust me when I tell you it's well worth the few bucks you'll pay.

Taking Chance is an amazing movie.

My wife cried the entire movie.

The movie opened at the Marine Corps Museum at Quantico and it was attended by Marine Corps brass, the family of Chance Phelps, Kevin Bacon, HBO executives and Lt. Col. Michael Strobl.

Taking Chance

I just watched Taking Chance on Friday night and was very moved by the movie itself and Kevin Bacon's performance in particular.

I often wonder what duty is like at the Dover AFB Mortuary and how the enlisted and I assume civilian personnel who process the deceased are able to cope with their jobs.

The movie while not at all about the mortuary only gives a brief glimpse of what has to be very difficult duty - the care and handling of our brave but killed in action troops, some flown directly from the battleground where they fell to the mortuary still covered in dirt and blood.

The movie briefly portrays one female of unknown rank who was assigned to process the remains the Chance Phelps the young Marine KIA in a very caring and respectful light.

Despite my past experiences of many years ago in another war Taking Chance had a profound effect on me that still lingers a couple of days later.

Taking Chance is not a war movie but more of a documentary about a little known fact of war - honoring the remains and families of those that make the ultimate sacrifice.

Taking Chance is probably not for everyone, but I am glad I was able to see the movie.

Taking Chance while very sad is also very respectful in it's almost complete detail of the process of honoring our fallen troops from the various branches of service (in this case The Marine Corps) from the time the remains land in Delaware until the flags are given to the next of kin.

Kudos to Kevin Bacon for looking and acting the part of a Marine lieutenant colonel. He's fit, and has the ramrod straight bearing that the Marine's are known for.

Taking Chance is the antithesis of Born on The Fourth of July.

Some of my favorite movies are war related movies. Taking Chance is very good but my favorite war movie of all time is hands down Glory.

Hey Wil, Happy Holiday From One OLD Vet To Another

Korea & Nam here. I see the guys now when I go to the VA Med Cntr, and they look so friggen YOUNG. And then I remember I was once there too. Went in @17, right after Korea broke out. Seems like 10 centuries ago. Congrats to you and ALL the guys who served. Haven't seen Chance as yet, but Born on the 4th WAS a true, if redacted version. And I don't disagree w/some of the viewpoints expressed in it! As for the best movie dealing w/war and the results, NONE can equal "Coming Home", the last 15 mins w/Voights speech to HS Srs is one of the most gut wrenching I've ever seen. For actual combat, "Saving Private Ryan" is hard to beat. Also love the last battle scene in "We Were Soldiers". Glory was very good also. Have a great day all you Vets, you're the BEST!!!!:toast:<><>
