The Abbey, West Hollywood’s most famous gay bar, has struck a deal with a TV network and will be launching its own reality television series.
Sources told TMZ that a production company is developing the series that will focus on employees at the bar, which is a two-time recipient of LOGO’s “Best Gay Bar In The World” award.
The venue has reportedly already started interviewing hopeful cast members.
“Anyone could walk into The Abbey and see a sign-up sheet for casting on the office door,” a source told The Wrap.
The Abbey is no stranger to controversy since its opening in 1991, so it will likely have plenty of material to work with to appeal to audiences.
In 2012, its founder David Cooley banned straight bachelorette parties, and in 2009 actress Jamie Pressly also made headlines after she urinated in front of the bar during broad daylight, per The Wrap.
Pressly later tweeted, “Yes … That is me doing dare #8 at my bridal shower.”
Star cameos are also a huge possibility considering celebrities like Elton John, Lady Gaga, and Miley Cyrus make frequent stops at the venue when they visit Los Angeles.
In 2013, The Abbey was hit with a $20 million lawsuit, after several employees were accused of drugging and raping two female patrons.
Additionally, the bar started a media frenzy after it introduced its own sandwich, called “Chick-For-Gay,” after Chick-Fil-A donated money to a group that opposes same-sex marriage rights.
Shoot dates have yet to be set, but a network has reportedly signed on to air the show.
