I'm a huge Terps homer and I don't see how Cal could possibly blow Maryland out by more than three scores, but that's beside the point.

Newspapers near Berkeley reporting that Jahvid Best has missed six practices in a row with a sore toe. He's recovering from foot surgery in the off-season.

Other thoughts on the game are welcome.

They could cut his toe off and he'd still be in the running for the Heisman.

They beat Michigan St by 7 last year so the bottomline is they cover opening night home games? :think2:

the game is at 10pm Maryland time. They could be tired by the 2nd half.

You really must be a homer. This is a mediocre Maryland team to begin with and they lost 30 seniors from the 2008 squad playing at Cal - which could be a top-5 defense and a potent offense? I'll be SHOCKED if they can stay within 3 TD's.

No need to be a prick, I was just bringing new information to the table. The beat writers have written that the players feel disrespected by the biggest point spread that Maryland has seen since 1994-95 against FSU.

We lost a ton of seniors but a lot of them sucked ass. A lot of the guys who are replacing them might not have starting experience, but got playing time last year. And QB Chris Turner already has 20 starts under his belt, so he's no rookie. He is also known for stepping up to play big games (wins against #23 Cal, @ #20 Clemson, #21 Wake Forest and #16 UNC last season).

Since all of the smart money here is on Cal and the points, that's going to me my play. But I'm also going to put a miniscule amount on the Terps moneyline in the case of an upset.

Terps offensive and defensive lines both figure to get dominated in this match-up. They lose all top pass catchers which could be problematic when they fall behind. Cal is absolutely loaded w/ legitimate revenge...has the makings of an opening night blow out.

If you think I was being a prick I think its safe to say you will have some serious problems dealing with life in the immediate future.

Now that is me being a prick.

People approach the same social situations differently, but if I was simply responding to someone's thread, I wouldn't start off by being a dick about it, that's all.

The line is the way it is because of Cal's 7-0 ATS record at home last year, and Maryland's 1-4 ATS record on the road last year.

Slater, do yourself a minuscule favor and skip it. I have no doubt whatsoever that Cal will manhandle the Terps here. They tend to be that way on the back end of a home/home series when revenge is involved and they play at home. But I'm not so happy about the backdoor issue because there is some lingering doubt in my mind about QB Kevin Riley's stepping his game up after having a real shitty year in '08.

Thanks to those like Conan who took time to respond and not be a shithead. I am very in tune with the Terps and realize their weaknesses on both sides of the line may cause a 5-7 or 6-6 season instead of an 8-4 season.

Fridge is a better coach and finds ways to get everything he can out of his players. 4 wins last year against ranked teams.
