How do ya feel if you are a parent of a brave soldier that has died in Iraq and Bush has ordered no photos of their caskets coming back from Iraq ...

The soldiers in the American military are simply pawns of the good ole' boys network, and the ones who serve thier enlistment and miss the meat grinder can be considered just lucky.

If I were Canada's PM I would attend the Pope's funeral as well. And I'm an atheist. The Pope was a leader, and a long-serving one at that. I would be embarassed if my PM were not going himself but were sending the Governor General instead.

Bush may well tick off some of the religious right by doing this ... so many of the born-agains believe Catholicism is satan's work. But in terms of leader-to-leader, it's the right thing to do.

(That said, Bush should indeed show more compassion and realism toward soldiers dying in Iraq. That just goes without saying. But I do believe they are separate issues.)
