After talks in Washington with Iraqi PM Ibrahim Jaafari, Mr Bush said the political progress that was being made in the country would lead to victory.

He said US troops would eventually withdraw "with honour", but declined to set a timetable for withdrawal. His comments came after up to six US troops were killed in a suicide car bombing in the Iraqi city of Falluja. Two have been confirmed dead, while a further four are missing presumed dead after Thursday night's attack in the restive western city.

The only sad thing is that the marines were apparently transporting in female marines to search women for weapons. this bowing to muslim sensitivities makes me sick - just strip all the women naked and get the biggest black marine you can find and let him search them with his "probe".

Just a thought, you know what I find a little ironic about this
war and the view of many of these "new" conservatives. Many
times I notice them writing hateful and disparaging remarks
about the muslims and the Iraqi people. Yet, the only reason
they can muster for our being there is to democratize these
people. Is this a little strange, or is it me. Why would you
want to hand the gift of democracy to the people you
despise? On one hand, we hear "strip their women naked
and get a big black marine..." and next we hear how important
it is save these people. Anybody else confused?

stacilu.....yes, I have noticed those same traits.....send troops in to export democracy yet at the same time the Iraqi people are declared scum and can be treated however we want to because we are "at war", and the rules of conduct only apply to the enemy, we can do what we want though....

Is this the real version of democracy we want to instill in these people, for them to learn as we have?

As for Bush vowing to defeat the rebels......does anyone else see the number of insurgents willing to complete a guaranteed suicide mission to fulfill thier cause? How many Americans would be willing to go on a mission where they absolutely knew they were going to die?

Bush can say whatever comes out of his a$$ at the time, but there would appear to be a significant number of rebels willing to meet 72 virgins and at the same time take out as many "infidels" as they can in the process.....it won't help our cause out any if we start b1tchslapping some Iraqi's grandmother and turning people who might be our allies into people that want to put an American in the crosshairs.....

Another day, another suicide bomber, been that way for two years now, will be that way tomorrow as long as the "infidels" are still in town.

For all those who desperately cling to the mistaken dream of democracy in the middle east, what would your Republican offshore sportsbook post as a moneyline on this event happening, compared to a realistic sportsbook like Oly or Pinny that think in terms of making money and would put out a line in respect with reality?

Where would the smart money be after two years of the same failing strategy?
