I'm still waiting for Clare Short's opinion on the oil for food scam...apparently episodes like that only enhances the UN moral authority.

http://news.scotsman.com/latest.cfm?id=3944374

But former International Development Secretary Clare Short said that role should be left to the UN.

“I think this initiative from America to set up four countries claiming to coordinate sounds like yet another attempt to undermine the UN when it is the best system we have got and the one that needs building up,” she said.

“Only really the UN can do that job,” she told BBC Radio Four’s PM programme.

“It is the only body that has the moral authority. But it can only do it well if it is backed up by the authority of the great powers.”

Judge,

I hate to say it, but the needy will see less 25% of the aid sent. The corupt leaders will pocket the rest. Much like what Arafat did.

Apparently the only company allowed to hand out aid to the Tsunami victims in this new Bush rescue coalition is Halliburton.

Aid is funny stuff Game, a lot of it is not really aid as an ordinary person regards it.

The US give Israel a billion buxx on the condition they buy a shedload of F-16s and bunkerbusters. Is that aid?
Theres a load of money goes to different places for stuff like that.
Egypt, Pakistan, S Korea etc etc

Iraq 'gets' $18 billion in aid.
A year and a half later, they've only seen one billion of it so far, and the biggest chunk is now going on security stuff.

Exactly. Take out military contributions, and the US ranks 27th. That's not horrible, but it's certainly a far cry from #1.

The biggest beneficiaries of US aid to countries like Israel etc are those US companies like Lockheed Martin and Raytheon who supply the hardware.

They are really just Government subsidies with a foreign country as the middleman.

Plus you get foreign policy kudos with the receipient, since they get a load of armaments for free.

Judge Wapner said:
Doesn't matter where it comes from as long as it gets where it is needed.
That should be the 'Battle Hymn of the Liberals' the next election because if it is, they'll get waxed in '06. Take from the rich and give to the poor is what your trying to sugar coat but that is a heartfelt message that has been deemed uncredible by knowledgable red county folks.

Anotherwords, So the poor should rule the rich and the rich can BUY friends by giving to the poor - if ya gotta buy your friends, well...
Yep that's what you libs our willing to try.

The United Nations is an enemy to the United States. Until the UN goes, you send everything packaged in the American Flag so the friends we are trying to BUY at least know where to go to get some more.

The thing is joint, I can't see the Somalis getting too much stuff wrapped in old glory.

Individual donors are bias for various reasons.

The UN goes some way towards eliminating that.

medecine sans Frontiers unassed Afghanistan because US forces politicised humanitarian aid.
This policy put genuine humanitarian aid workers' lives at risk

I love how people rip the bad, horrible USA. Is not fair that we are the only super power left. But if something happens, these countries are first in line begging for money. 40 years left of oil, then its all gone. What do you think will happen to the middle east then? They will be :hump:

eek,

The Somalis is a very poor example to prove your point. We ( America) took many Somali refugees and shipped and aired them over into the United States under Clinton so they could suck directly from the nipple; they know how to suck that nip so well they usually are driving a lexxus. They vote 100% for the biggest liberal out there. I fear the importation of more refugees after this tsunami.

I don't know where this desperation for you right wing dudes to feel superior to other people comes from.

Its like you lack self-esteem or something.

The bulk of their recovery will be done by themselves, just like it will in Iraq once the US military leaves.
No-one rebuilds their life with a few packs of food with a US flag stamped on it.
Aid gets them through the really bad time, period.

The rest of their life, like your own, is up to the individual.
