President George W Bush yesterday predicted that he would bring peace between Israel and the Palestinians during his second term in office, making a strikingly bold assessment of his foreign-policy goals for the next four years. "I want you to know that I am going to invest a lot of time and a lot of creative thinking so that there will finally be peace between Israel and the Palestinians," Mr Bush told the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Aharonoth.

"I am convinced that, during this term, I will manage to bring peace."

According to Bush, the only way there will be peace for Israel is if they allow a Palestinian state within their borders and that is like giving Al Qaeda the state of Texas so they'll stop killing Americans.

This war is not about land or political ideals. It is about the extermination of Israel.

Curious to know....if he is so confident that he can install peace there why doesn't he move there and we can find someone here to take care of the USA.....we got problems to solve in all 50 states and all we hear out of the common politician is rebuilding Iraq and coddling Israel and bringing peace to that area......

I seriously doubt he would actually have the stones to even set foot anywhere near Israel/Palestine.....after all, this is the same guy who checked the box for "no overseas service" so conveniently when others were scooping thier intestines off some jungle in 'Nam.....

"I am convinced that, during this term, I will manage to bring peace."

I'm going to have to see this happen before I'm going anywhere near believing these words.....kinda like the "oil revenues will pay for the rebuilding of Iraq" and "mission accomplished" when twice as many more troops would die and many more others are still dying....

Time has proven that George W. Bush is no Joe Namath.

All of his promises have fallen short.

Doc: on this particular issue, it would be nice if you would refrain from phrasing your criticism of Bush as an analysis of his incompetence. It would matter not one whit to you who was your President under these circumstances. You obviously oppose any attempts to move toward peace in that particular region, probably out of some blind devotion to Israel and the whole Second Coming blah blah.

According to Bush, the only way there will be peace for Israel is if they allow a Palestinian state within their borders and that is like giving Al Qaeda the state of Texas so they'll stop killing Americans.

Did you write this or is it a quote? If it's a quote, could you shoot me a link? If it's yours, could you elaborate with some degree of specificity, please?

Hey Marco, I agree w/ you on every word, you wrote.

It's so funny how the Mr. Bush thinks that somehow he has the power to solve a conflict that nobody else could in more than 80 years.

From Wikpedia:
"After his presidency, Clinton identified his proudest foreign policy accomplishments as mediating peace talks between Israel and Palestine, resulting in the Oslo Accords. "

I guess the Israeli-Palestinian issue has made a lot of Presidents look foolish.

Of course, Yassar Arrafat was still alive to hinder any chance at peace! Now that he's dead, there could be a real opportunity to negatiate a lasting peace. Maybe this is why President Bush is being so optimistic about a realistic settlement agreement.

Yeah, right ...

What assinine predictions. The ME has shown many politicos of more ambition than Bush what a minefield it can be

Lets face fact: the PLO believes in its charter regarding the complete destruction of the state of Israel ...

What is the most AMAZING part of this equation: here we have a man who touts the Bible and on the other hand is all for Israel giving up their land to terrorists?

Bush is so phony in his true beliefs it is disgusting and almost laughable .....

Doc - there you go again with your anti-Bush rhetoric rather than looking at the facts.

As you stated, the Palestinian problem has been a minefield for a lot of other, more astute politicians - buit all of them had Yassar Arrafat sabotaging any possible successes.

With Arrafat dead, there's an opportunity for peace that only a fool would ignore. Bush is showing his greatness by trying to persue any possibilty for peace.

do ya know who Bush will be negotiating with for this "so-called" Peace?? ... Get real if ya think having Arafat out of the way is the answer .. do your homework, amigo:

Arafat's puppet is Mahmoud Abbas .... Abbas is a fraud. Abbas is evil in his own right. Abbas is a deceiver. Abbas is an anti-Semite and a hater

Abbas, as a doctoral candidate at Moscow's Oriental College in 1982, wrote a thesis suggesting far fewer than 6 million Jews were killed in the Holocaust. But, Abbas did much more than that. He actually accused the Jews of conspiring with Adolph Hitler to annihilate European Jewry. He accused the Jews of deliberately inflating the numbers of those killed in concentration camps to pave the way for a Jewish state.

In the version of his doctoral paper later published under the title, "The Other Side: The Secret Relationship Between Nazism and the Zionist Movement," Abbas denied the German use of gas chambers and suggested the total number of Jews killed was fewer than 1 million.

But perhaps the most horrifying and revolting charge by Abbas is that Zionists were complicit with the Nazis in the murder of Jews. "The Zionist movement led a broad campaign of incitement against the Jews living under Nazi rule, in order to arouse the government's hatred of them, to fuel vengeance against them, and to expand the mass extermination," Abbas wrote.

Abbas was one of the principal planners of the Munich Olympics terrorist attack. He was the guy who wrote the checks and embraced the operatives as they headed off to one of the most sensational terrorist attacks of its time in 1972. More recently he said the "intifada" – the violent uprising by Arabs against Israel that has raged since the fall of 2000 – "must continue." He has never renounced armed struggle as a legitimate means of achieving his precious Palestinian state.
Abbas is not a champion of peace. He is a master of artful conflict. Bush's advisers do not serve him well if they have not explained this simple con game.

Doc - try reading what I said!

I said that Bush is smart for trying! With Arrafat out of the way, sooner or later there'll be a pragmatist in charge who is sick of the constant conflict and all of the death. Someone who'll be willing to negotiate a real peace.

It might not happen - but "nothing ventured, nothing gained".

get off the crack ....

Bush is Mr "Bible Thumper" and supports Israel giving up territory to the Palestinians? Enough said about Bush's "Indepth Knowledge" of the Bible

Ya dont get it, do ya? Bush might as well try and cut a deal to give Al-Queda part of Florida or Georgia as the destruction of Israel is the only thing the Arab world cares about ...

Israel has been on the defensive since 1948 and if ANY American President thinks giving Palestianians a state right next door to Israel will bring peace, whip out the jar and having em take a piss cause will not happen

Again, Abbas is a Jew killer .... yeah, sure, he is dedicated toward Peace ...

Doc Mullah, you could be right about peace never happening between the Paletinians and the Israeli's.

I'm an optimist and an opportunist, always striving to do a little bit better and to achieve a little bit more, and always working for the best. You are a pessimist, seeing the worst in everything and everyone, and hating those people that you see as different.

Because you hate so well, I'm sure that you understand the Palestinians much better than I ever will.

If you don't mind, I will continue to hope and pray for a peaceful settlement, and I will encourage our President to do the same.

this Iraq scenario is a nitemare and I care about our kids ...

Obviously, you and Bush do not care about the kids and it shows with your constant postings defending this clown is absolutely amazing

You should be embarrassed for your lack of support to our brave kids
