WASHINGTON - It was billed as a conversation with U.S. troops, but the questions President Bush asked on a teleconference call Thursday were choreographed to match his goals for the war in Iraq and Saturday's vote on a new Iraqi constitution. <!--/summary-->"This is an important time," Allison Barber, deputy assistant defense secretary, said, coaching the soldiers before Bush arrived. "The president is looking forward to having just a conversation with you.".

  • Pre-written letters to editors from soldiers (they didn't even take the time change the wording"
  • Plastic turkey stunts with the troops
  • Aircraft stunts (never much mention how happy those on board were who actually had to spend one more day at sea because of the mission accomplished stunt)
  • Staged military conference calls
and on...and on....

Just read it on Yahoo! This ass will pull out all the stops it seems to justify his illegal war and agenda. Again, all this is happening right in our faces and nobody will do shit about it.

This is indefensible. I just saw the video of the rehearsal. Those soldiers were being told what to say.

Shame on this administration for using our brave soldiers in this manner to boost an unpopular war.

The soldiers all gave Bush an upbeat view of the situation.

The president also got praise from the Iraqi soldier who was part of the chat.

"Thank you very much for everything," he gushed. "I like you."

Just another case of the voice of the prez being left out of the loop?

QUESTION: How were they selected, and are their comments to the president pre-screened, any questions or anything...

MCCLELLAN: No.

QUESTION: Not at all?

MCCLELLAN: This is a back-and-forth.

As much as the Left loves to pretend to be outraged...this isn't all that dissimilar than the "town hall" meeting the dems had. Where they wouldn't let you in if you weren't personally vetted by the local party hack. Remember?

Anyways, let me see if I have this straight. By "staged", you mean the President picked the questions he was going to ask (that's outrageous!), and the order in which soldiers would answer questions was preplanned. Is that about it?

I didn't see anything in there stating that the soldiers <!--EZCODE ITALIC START-->answers<!--EZCODE ITALIC END--> were scripted or staged, and you figure the reporter would have mentioned if they were given the tone of the article.

In other words, what was done wrong here?

Paying journalists to publicly praise dog-shit policies

Im sure no other President has scripted the questions and comments he intended to have? You DemocRats are the ones pulling out the stops. When the Constitution passes tomorrow it will be a huge accomplishment for the military....although none of you will view it that way....sadly.Next will come the "it means nothing".....but it means something to the troops and the Iraqis, just b/c it means nothing to you.

BTW the yahoo article in via the AP:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051014/ap_on_go_pr_wh/bush_iraq_20;_ylt=AkM0t1nBB4YQX.UORAhVd3QUewgF;_ylu=X3oDMTA2ZGZwam4yBHNlYwNmYw--

Now ,this is no editorial.....look at how she reports this "story"....how can you all say theres no liberal media with a straight face.

Now that disgusting.

A town hall meeting is one thing, but a supposed conversation with our troops about the progress of the war in quite another. The town hall citizens are not on our payroll and are not reporting to the commander in chief about their work. If you really can't see the difference...

JDeuce:

Your postings remind me of Limbaughs rantings ....

Oh, let us all guess: "your posting was taken out of context"????

No posting from you, Young Man, when you are doing shots of Yukon Jack and sharing a bong with your hero GWB

WASHINGTON, Oct. 13 (Reuters) - A handpicked group of U.S. troops told President George W. Bush on Thursday they believed the Iraqi people were eager to vote in a weekend referendum on an Iraqi constitution.

In a carefully scripted event, Bush spoke to 10 U.S. troops and an Iraqi soldier in a video teleconference about preparations for the Saturday vote . . .

When prompted by the president to say something, the Iraqi soldier, who was not immediately identified, said in English: "Good morning, Mr President, thank you for everything. Thank you very much for everything. I like you."

Posted by billmon at 09:55 PM The soldier then broke down and wept. "Please, I'll tell you whatever you want," he sobbed. "Just don't put that wire up my ass again."
