EIJING, Tuesday, Dec. 14 - The Chinese police on Monday afternoon detained three leading intellectuals who have been critical of the government, apparently stepping up a campaign to silence public dissent.

Yu Jie and Liu Xiaobo, literary figures, and Zhang Zuhua, a political theorist, were detained in raids at their homes, relatives and friends said. The detentions were the latest in a string of arrests and official harassment of journalists, writers and scholars who have spoken out against government policies or written articles or essays that officials have deemed damaging.

So you're comparing known terrorists to political disidents?

Please telll me how the jailing of terrorists in the US and the jailing of political disidents in China is comparable?

By such guidelines wouldn't Doc find himself in prison for his extgremist rhetoric against Bush?

This is another "reach" that has no justification in fact.

BB, as far as the US is concerned, all Islamics are terrorists or a threat to social order.

And guess what BB

In China, all dissidents are terrorists or a threat to social order.

footnote:
and guess what too BB

political prisoners are always denied access to free and proper trial procedures and held incommunicado for years...

(you should make them POWs asap and call in the Red Cross)

eek - you play with words!

The US has a free press, the aclu, and the Democrat party to take care of the terrorists rights - the political dissidents in China have none of this.
The Justice department has been taken to the Supreme Court to protect the terrorists rights - China doesn't have a Supreme Court.
The Red Cross and any number of UN and other organizations have had access to the places these terrorists are being held, as well as access to some of the terrorists themselves - does China allow this?

There's a world of difference between the US and China.

eek - I thought more of you!

Go ahead and keep comparing our Government to China's, or Hitler's Germany or whatever, as you crybabies only make yourself look more foolish. If this country jailed dissenters, Michale Moore would have been strung up a while back, Air America radio would not be allowed to broadcast their venom, and Mellencamp and Springsteen couldn't go on their Anti-America Bush-Bashing tour. Do yourselves a favor and try and think outside of your hate filled box.

And if the country jailed folks that are complete morons and make a living out of distorted lies than Limbaugh, Hannity & Coulter would be getting 3 squares per day ....

The Liberals are far from having a lock on wackos working in the Media ...

Best moment in TV History is when Coulter started sobbing after Matthews beat the hell out of her and told her to shut th flap up and to stick those "Traitor" comments and start answering the questions

But I'l go on raggin' yore áss for as long as you continue with this Guantanamo nonsense.

Hey, did you also know that the US has more people in prison than China.
Thats total people.
And more people in prison per 100,000 of population than China too, and Iran.

Just thought you might like to know that.

(I still love ya more than the Chinese or Iranians. Just don't ask me to live there tho :>Grin> )

BTW Naughty Brits fight extradition to the USA tooth and nail 'cos everyone gets their ass thrown in prison over there.
