Bush is in "damage control" mode. I think he is in over his head with Iraq and the economy. Iraq wasn't connected to 9-11. There has been no credible evidence to support it and you can bet your sweet ass if there had been any evidence, it would've been brought forth by now to back up his claims.

That is what he gets for having a bunch of ideologues for advisers and in important positions. Guys like Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Cheney, Ashcroft...these guys are far off the charts to the right and here is the Prez trying to act like he operates in the vast middle. Yeah right. Say what you want about Clinton, but he sure knew how to pick great people that were actually from the middle and the few fools like Reich got booted from the inner circle early on. If W gets reelected I hope he smells the coffee and starts getting people that are in tune with what the middle of the country really wants, not what the Christian Coalition or Forbes readers have on their wish list.
You really think Barney Frank or Jocelyn Elders were doing anything important there? The guys I mention are the key players in the W Camp along with Powell, the only decent one there. The Surgeon General, what they hell do they do??? The people who were quality I refer to were people like Rubin, Cohen, Albright, Larry Summers, all highly respected centrists with excellent credentials. Reno wasn't that strong, but she wasn't swayed by partisan politics at least. Then you get absolute moron emperors in the W administration like Rumsfeld and Ashcroft, guys that have power and you just have to wince. And who the hell is running his budget planning? I guess he and his people don't care about the future, just as long as they get reelected. I admit I usually vote for Republicans and I voted for W, but I can't say he has made me happy so far. Just a bunch of idiots and a few decent people in there. As my buddy said today, look at that idiot Cheney, never held a real job in his life and all his buddies and donors are raking in cash, yet one good assasination plot and that guy is our leader. How bad could it get?
It's even too late to impeach Bush. The damage he and his cronies have done will take decades to undo. Our standing as a leader in the world community will possibly never be the same. Instead of defenders of the free world we are now known as aggresors to be feared. I realize this isn't a new stance for the U.S. but at least from WWII 'til recently we managed to keep our aggresion covert.

The problem as I see it is the endless partisanship. If you sit and criticize and say impeach the guy, he is an idiot, he will never do anything right...well he will ignore you. Constructive criticism is a lost art around the world, everyone that speaks out is just mad as hell and blows out of proportion their argument to the point where it looks phony and gets ignored. Unless you are Ralph Nader, W isn't the worst thing that ever happened to this country. Unless you are Pat Robertson, Bill Clinton wasn't the worst thing that ever happened to this country. Bottom line is that both sides of the arguments you see would gain credibility if they focused just simply on a handful of things they don't agree with and work to persuade on those things. Don't say, so and so you are a frickin moron because you did this and that. Say, hey George, I know you are trying your best but I think you are being led astray a bit here. We all want you to do well, after all we have no one else in your position, so hear me out and maybe lead us in a slightly different direction. Just like a sales person would. Instead the media and all the political commentary just forgets this idea and says EVERYTHING is wrong and nothing is right and that is why its so easy to blow off their arguments even if they have some validity.
Back in the 60's Bob McNamara and the "best and the brightest", a bunch of intellectuals with degrees from Harvard, Stanford, etc., formulated plans for Vietnam and saw the world as a chessboard on which they with our ALL POWERFUL army could simply move the pieces around any way they wanted. Result: disaster.
So here we are today, with Wolfowitz, Perle, et al , another bunch of degreed armchair generals, doing it all over again. Why do these supposedly intelligent people have no knowledge of history (see Britain, Iraq, 1920's) and no sense that they might ever have to plan for possible failure or outcomes they didn't anticipate (gee, the Iraqi people don't really love us after all).
With all the domestic problems we have, I'm amazed that the President can get up and blithely tell us that we need to borrow another 87 billion to pour down a hole in Iraq where we don't even have a clue why we're there, where we're going, or what the goal is. Unbelievable, and more unbelievable that the American people aren't marching in the streets in protest right now.
Forget about democracy for Iraq, what a foolish, flimsy cover story that has always been. I said in this forum months ago, pull the troops back to the oilfields and fortify them, and dig in for a long occupation. Be honest, we're there for the oil and nothing more, so dare anyone to take it back now that we've captured it. Then invent a phoney story about that to be sold to the sheep via Fox news.

Iraq was never a nation, it was a collection of warring tribes pasted together by the British and after they bailed, held together by brutal Baathist dictatorship. It isn't going to become a nation or a democracy no matter how much more we bankrupt our economy trying to make it so.

Too much analysis, leads to paralysis. I know some of you "intellectuals" out there don't believe that to be so bunch - to each his own. Bush II don't just sit around.
