Byron Leftwich - QB - Steelers Report: Leftwich, Bucs closing in on deal
Bucs coach Raheem Morris is a close friend of Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, who may have given Lefty a strong recommendation as a starting caliber quarterback. Leftwich would challenge Luke McCown and allow the Bucs to address other positions early in the draft. April 9

supposedly raheem morris loves josh freeman; he was at k state when freeman was a freshman; i wouldn't be surprised to see tampa take lefwich; and trade up into early second round to get freeman if he is still there

The Tampa Tribune confirms the report.
The Bucs apparently had second thoughts about their Luke McCown/Brian Griese/Josh Johnson depth chart, and Leftwich likely came cheaply. While not a West Coast quarterback, Leftwich's track record as a starter compares favorably with McCown's. The two will compete for the starting job, with Griese's roster spot now in jeopardy.

Byron fat head has the worst mechanics in the NFL, a poor attitude and isn't a very good starter.

MAYBE he can backup, but nothing more than that.
