SOMALI HAD A POUND OF CYANIDE IN DENVER
By Punditarian

The Denver Post reports that Saleman Abdirahman Dirie, who crossed the Canadian border into the United States, had about one pound of sodium cyanide in the hotel room, two miles from the Democrat Party Convention site, where he was found dead. (Hat tip: Charles Johnson.) That would be enough cyanide to kill hundreds of people. Odds are, this episode is the tip of a mass-casualty attack iceberg that may have derailed. Thank Heaven. Let's just hope that it is being pursued by counter-terrorism agents more vigorously than might appear from press reports. http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/17181011/detail.html?rss=den&psp=news

Police: Pound Of Cyanide Found In Denver Hotel

Canadian Man Had Been Dead For Days Inside Burnsley

POSTED: 11:11 am MDT August 13, 2008
UPDATED: 10:16 am MDT August 14, 2008

<SCRIPT src="/js/13260191/script.js" type=text/javascript></SCRIPT><LINK href="/css/13260803/style.css" type=text/css rel=stylesheet><!--startindex-->DENVER -- Police confirmed Wednesday that they found about a pound of sodium cyanide in a Denver hotel room where the body of a Canadian man was discovered earlier this week.

Police spokesman John White identified the white powder as sodium cyanide, the crystal form of cyanide. Fire officials say they found a bottle containing about a pound of the white powder, or between a pint and a quart by volume.

An expert told the Denver Post that the amount of cyanide is enough to kill hundreds of people.

The medical examiner's office said it is awaiting test results to determine whether cyanide killed 29-year-old Saleman Abdirahman Dirie, of Ottawa, Canada.

His body was found Monday inside Room 408 at The Burnsley Hotel, which is about four blocks from the state Capitol. White said Dirie had been dead for several days. Friends told The Ottawa Sun that he was dead six days before he was discovered.

Foul play is not suspected and his death appears to be an isolated incident, White said.

Dirie's sister told CanWest News Service that her brother had been on medication for the past three years to treat his schizophrenia, but that he was not a terrorist.

The FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force is assisting in the investigation but FBI spokeswoman Kathy Wright said the incident has no apparent connection to terrorism.

"You have a suspicious substance that was found in a hotel room in conjunction with person being a foreign national, and we have a lot of questions and that is why we are assisting," Wright told the Post.

An online threat posted in July by a man with a similar name warned of death. The blog discussed the killing of Christians in Somalia by Islamists. The person who posted on the blog appeared to condemn Christians.

"Having the bible in one hand, and a bread in the other hand, is not a correct thing! Kill Them , Kill them, Kill them, that is my massage (sic),!" read the posting by Abdirahman Dirie on the 'Solmali's for Jesus' Blog.

It was not clear if Abdirahman Dirie and Saleman Abdirahman Dirie are the same person.

On Tuesday, firefighters and hazmat crews joined the FBI at the hotel, where they cordoned off the neighborhood surrounding the hotel for a second time, and used the case as a "training exercise" in preparation to the Democratic National Convention.

The upscale Burnsley Hotel is about two miles away from the Pepsi Center, where the DNC will be held from Aug. 25-Aug. 27. However, it is not on the list of hotels where delegates are staying.

The last day of the DNC will be held at Invesco Field at Mile High, which is three miles away from the hotel.

Medical examiners had reported a bitter, almond-like smell from Dirie's body after it arrived at the morgue, indicating the possibility of cyanide poisoning.

Authorities have not listed Dirie's occupation or said why he may have had cyanide. White said sodium cyanide is readily available in stores and is the main ingredient in rat poison.

The FBI is also looking into why Dirie was in Denver, how he got here and when he arrived in the United States.

According to the Ottawa Sun, Dirie immigrated to Ottawa years ago and was a member of the city's Somali community. Dirie's father, Abdirahman, who also lives in Ottawa, traveled to Denver when he received the news of the death, said Addirizuk Karod, manager of the Somali Centre for Family Services in Ottawa.

Cyanide is a fast-acting chemical that prevents the body from processing oxygen. It is used in manufacturing, metallurgy and pest extermination. It can also be used as a chemical weapon and was used as a genocidal agent by the Nazis in World War II, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

One could be exposed to cyanide by breathing air, drinking water, eating food or touching soil that contains cyanide, the CDC reported.

Inhaling large doses of cyanide could cause comas, seizures, heart attacks, and even death after a few moments.

The four people who had initially touched the man were decontaminated as a precaution. Five occupied rooms on the fourth floor were evacuated and patrons moved to another floor.

Somali Muslim with cyanide was schizophrenic, not a terrorist
JIHAD WATCH
By Robert

Yet again we hear that a Muslim aiming to commit violence was mentally ill -- we have often seen this in freelance jihad cases. Why "mental illness" seems again and again to play itself out in this way when found among Muslims is never explained.

"Cyanide victim 'not a terrorist': family: Ottawa man with schizophrenia was in Denver on a vacation, sister says," by Andrew Seymour, Andrew Duffy, Gary Dimmock and Neco for The Ottawa Citizen, August 14 (thanks to the Constantinopolitan Irredentist):

OTTAWA - An Ottawa man whose mysterious death in a Denver hotel room is under investigation by the FBI was diagnosed with schizophrenia three years ago, his family revealed yesterday.

Preliminary autopsy results show Saleman Abdirahman Dirie, 29, may have died from exposure to cyanide, a rapidly acting chemical described by one expert as "the ideal terrorist weapon."

Denver police confirmed yesterday that the jar of white powder found in Mr. Dirie's hotel room contained sodium cyanide, the crystal form of the chemical.

The incident has raised disturbing new security concerns on the eve of the Democratic National Convention, which is to open in Denver on Aug. 25. The convention will officially nominate Illinois Senator Barack Obama as the party's presidential candidate.

In Ottawa, Mr. Dirie's sister told the Citizen that her brother suffered from mental illness, and she angrily rejected any suggestion that he was tied to terrorism or had any intention of harming Mr. Obama.

"He was not a terrorist," said the sister, who declined to give her name. "We don't want to hear that word, it hurts us. It is against our religion."

Her brother, she said, had travelled alone to Colorado for a vacation. The family, she said, was devastated to learn that he had died in his Denver hotel room.

"He was just going on a trip," his sister said.

"He just told us he wanted to go on a vacation and then we heard our brother had died," the sister said.

Mr. Dirie's sister said her brother had been doing well since he began receiving treatment for his illness at the Royal Ottawa Hospital about three years ago.

"He was fine. He was just a normal person."

Her brother was taking his medication regularly when he left Ottawa, she said, and was not suicidal. She did not know how or why he would have come in contact with cyanide....

Comments from Denver Post readers

Why don't you just go ahead tell people where they can obtain cyanide? You have told them how to make the gas, and potential locations.

Denver police spokesman John White said Dirie's death appears to be an isolated incident and is not related to the upcoming Democratic convention.
Because everyone takes a pound of cyanide along when they go on vacation.

I'll tell people how to obtain it. Take a level 2 chem class at a community college and make it yourself.

There you go. Let the terror begin!

Huh?

The guy's a former Somali refugee from Canada, driving around for three weeks in a rental car, a college drop-out, maybe unemployed, history of mental problems, drops off relatives in Toronto, then heads for --- Denver! --- the site of the upcoming Democratic National Convention for a "vacation" where he holes up in a downtown hotel with a pound of sodium Cyanide.

And Denver cops conclude it's not related to the convention.

Anyone home down there at the copshop?

Chill out and grow a pair.
If you really want to purchase anything, where would most terrorists go? Why the internet. Anarchists cook book would help anybody. Of course, that is also easily found.
Besides, there are LOADS of other very easily obtained ingrediants that can be mixed to make bombs, poisons, etc.
Want some fun? Go to any hottub, pool place as well as Home Depot or even King Soopers.

Heck, we use to generate cyanide for cleaning the voles out of pastures years ago.

Security through obscurity does NOT work.

Just to bring it up to date, the Dems did take control of both houses of the legislature, as the article predicted. Since then, our economy is down, gas has doubled in price, and Congress now has an approval rating of 9%, far lower than Bush's. The war in Iraq is almost won, and both sides are now discussing an orderly troop withdrawal.

Meanwhile, the Dems are on the verge of nominating an extreme Marxist liberal for President, the Russians are back to their old ways, and Israel is about to attack Iran to stop them from developing nuclear weapons. Intelligence reports indicate that Al Qaeda is now concentrating on chemical and biological weapons to attack the US, and a Somali native with no passport is found in Denver with a pound of potassium cyanide 2 blocks from the Dem convention site. Oh, and by the way, Bush did not declare marshal law, as your article predicted.

Perhaps you feel that you are better off than you were two years ago, or that things will improve if only Obama can win in November, but a great many of us disagree. Perhaps that is why Obama has never cracked the 50% level in the polls, and now appears to be fading. While the Dems have tried unsuccessfully to tie McCain to Bush, Republicans have had the opportunity to tie Obama to Reed and Pelosi. Even a good number of Dems are beginning to look at a Reed/Pelosi/Obama government with dismay.

suddenjihadsyndrome.jpg
<HR>Here's an incomplete list of Sudden Jihad Syndrome terrorists, almost all of whom were described as acting alone by the cops and/or the FBI. Their acts -- murder, attempted murder, battery and destruction of property -- were almost universally described as, "not terrorism."

In almost every case, the fact that they were members of the Religion of Peace was the last piece of information revealed by the media -- if revealed at all. Robert Spencer comments on this phenomenon
in this video.

Once identified as Muslims, a chorus of bleeding heart apologists always rises, to provide defenses, causes and excuses for the horrific acts of these terrorists.

Tahmeed Ahmad (the latest event)
Ahmad, a Kuwaiti-born math teacher, wielded butcher knives and vodka bottles that he intended to ignite as explosives as he attacked the military policemen at the west entrance of the Homestead (FL) Air Reserve Base.

As usual, FBI officials said he was trying to commit suicide and the attack was not an act of terrorism -- even though Ahmad was on the federal terrorist watch list, chanted ''death to America'' and told Homestead Air Reserve Base guards he wanted to kill soldiers.

Geez Louise -- exactly how brain dead does the FBI think Americans are?

Ali Abu Kamal
Palestinian English teacher Ali Abu Kamal went to the 86th floor observation deck of the Empire State Building, pulled out a gun, and opened fire, killing one person and wounding six others before killing himself.

Ali R. Warrayat
An Arizona Home Depot employee jumped out of the car’s path. To drown out the man’s yells, Warrayat reached over to his car radio and blasted Arabic music before crashing through the front doors.

Anis Omar
On the afternoon of August 9, in Calgary, Alberta, as the sidewalks were full of poeple waiting to catch buses home, a man Anis Omar (moved to Canada from Lebanon 3 years ago) "accidently" ran over 6 to 7 people on a sidewalk. One victim ended up in hospital with serious injuries. He claimed car troubles but when the police could find nothing wrong with his car, they charged him with careless driving, but he should have been charged with attempted murder.

Charles Bishop (Bishra)
A note written by the 15-year-old boy who crashed a Cessna into a Tampa office building indicated he supported Osama bin Laden and that the act was deliberate, authorities say.

Haider Mohammed
Contacted by Palm Springs Police, FBI investigators described Muslim who was arrested after threatening to 'Kill All Jews' as "not a person of interest."

Hesham Mohamed Ali Hadayet
The suspect, Egyptian-born Hesham Mohamed Ali Hadayet, left two people dead and five injured at the El Al airlines ticket counter at Los Angeles International Airport before being fatally shot by a security guard.

Ibrihim Ahmed
Cab driver, Ibrihim Ahmed, tried to run over two customers after a "religious disagreement" and was arrested and charged with assault, attempted homicide and theft. One of the passengers managed to outrun the cab but Jeremy Invus was taken to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center with serious injuries. The victims testified in court that the cab driver ran them over after they disapproved of his statement that Hitler had done the world a great service by attempting to exterminate the Jews.

Iftekhar Murtaza
A 22-year-old American Muslim man, Iftekhar Murtaza, living in Southern California was arrested in Phoenix Airport for bludgeoning, stabbing, strangling, and burning Leela, Karishma, and Jayprakash Dhanak. These three victims were the mother, sister, and father of his girlfriend, Shayona Dhanak.
Joel Henry Hinrichs IIIA convert to Islam, was an engineering student at Oklahoma University. His student career ended when a bomb he had strapped on himself went off prematurely outside a crowded stadium, killing only himself. Police subsequently cleared explosives from the apartment that Hinrichs had shared with Muslim students from Pakistan. The material used in the bomb was TATP, known in Islamic terror circles as the "Mother of Satan". TATP is the same explosive used by the London bombers, shoe-bomber Richard Reid, and countless others. A tree near where Hinrichs' bomb detonated displays a number of small round holes and some areas of a metallic substance. The holes and substance are only on the side facing the bench on which Hinrichs was seated when the bomb detonated. The holes appear to be about the size of the head of 16 penny nail.
John Muhammad
Federal prosecutors filed a criminal complaint, charging Beltway Sniper John Muhammad with 20 felony counts, including extortion and intent to commit murder. He was convicted of six murders.

Marc Lepine (Gamal Gharbhi)
For 45 minutes on Dec. 6, 1989 an enraged gunman roamed the corridors of Montreal's École Polytechnique and killed 14 women.

Michael Ford
This Muslim convert, walked into work at a Safeway warehouse in Denver and opened fire on his coworkers, killing one and injuring five. Relatives explained that he was being teased at work because he’s a Muslim and he could not take it anymore.

Mohammed Ali Alayed
After apparently undergoing a religious awakening, a Saudi Arabian student in Houston killed his Jewish friend by slashing his throat.

Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar
Just-graduated student named Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar, 22, and an Iranian immigrant, drove a rented sport utility vehicle into a crowded pedestrian zone at University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He struck nine people.

Mujtaba Jabbar
Mujtaba Jabbar, 24, is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center in connection with the June shooting at the Loews Valley Center 9, in which he allegedly stood up in the middle of “X-Men: The Last Stand” and opened fire on the audience. He is currently coping an insanity plea in his trial.

Naveed Afzal Haq
Eyewitnesses told the Seattle News that Mr. Haq announced, "I'm a Muslim American; I'm angry at Israel," and then began shooting. He killed one woman and wounded five others.

Omeed Aziz Popal
Up to 14 hurt in San Francisco hit-and-run spree. Seven are critical. The driver believed to have struck and killed a man in Fremont earlier.

Patrick Gott
From Pensacola, FL, entered the New Orleans airport terminal with a shotgun and his Koran -- he killed one and wounded another

Rashid Baz
This Muslim from Lebanon, opened fire on a van containing members of the Lubavitch Hassids in Brooklyn. One was killed.

Sayed Khaled El-Waraky
The Virginia college student drove his Jaguar into a crowd outside the Glen Cove Golf Club, injuring four young men, two critically. "He accelerated up the center lane of the parking lot and into the crowd. Bodies were tossed in the air," said a bystander.

Sulejman Talovic
Police identified the gunman accused in Monday night's Trolley Square shooting as Sulejman Talovic, an 18-year-old Bosnian refugee who lived in Salt Lake City. In a video recording of the event, Sulejman is heard yelling "Allah Akbar, Allah Akbar," -- followed by gunfire.

When you have victims of Sudden Jihad Syndrome piling up all over the country, the reasonable person would conclude -- that's terrorism.

you're grasping at straws here...you should probably take your energy and put it somewhere else

they are FBI & Joint Task adn Terroristic Force are conducting an investigation.

You're upset because they found a person dead....on monday thought cyanide may be the cause...found something that resembled it..are testing it and conducting an investigation

what do you want them to do?

Call press conferences concluding it's terrorism..would that make you happy?

During Dirie's autopsy Monday, the coroner noticed something that indicated cyanide poisoning, leading police to cordon off streets and evacuate guests of the fourth-floor rooms as they investigated at the upscale hotel, four blocks from the state capital.

A hazardous materials team removed the bottle of white powder from Room 408. Authorities are still trying to determine if it's cyanide. Tests are now being done by the Denver Police Crime Lab to determine the nature of the substance. The tests could take days.

Dirie was a member of Ottawa's Somali community and attended the Somali Centre for Family Services, said manager Addirizuk Karod.

"He came to the centre with friends," he said.

Dirie's brother Hassan Dirie worked for Thrifty Car Rental on Bank St., but recently moved to Vancouver, Karod said.

MANY QUESTIONS

Members of the community were trying to reach him yesterday but he wasn't answering his phone. Dirie had been dead for six days when he was found, he said.

"How come nobody in the hotel noticed that he wasn't coming or going?" he asked.

The Dirie family came to Ottawa as refugees years ago and had since become Canadian citizens, he said. Dirie's father Abdirahman, who also lives in Ottawa, travelled to Denver when he received the news, he said. The FBI and other governmental agencies, including the Joint Terrorism Task Force, are assisting in the investigation. Hazardous materials assistance has included the Colorado State Patrol and the Colorado National Guard.

So where does a poor defenseless victim of Western society and a schitzo get cyanide? :think2:
