ORLANDO - LSU coach Nick Saban announced Friday that he will accept the Dolphins offer to take over as head coach, according to ESPN.com. Saban was offered the job by Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga on Wednesday and Saban had struggled with the decision to leave the Tigers since then.
The contract will be worth $4.5 million - $5 million for five years and he will have near-absolute control over any football-related decisions as he attempts to rebuild the Miami franchise which has suffered through one of its worst seasons.
Saban, 53, was college football's highest paid coach, having completed the first year of a seven-year, $18.45 million deal. He was making $2.3 million this year with approximately $400,000 in incentives. He is expected to coach the Tigers in their Jan. 1 bowl game.
