Roethlisberger hurt in motorcycle crash (Super Bowl QB - No Helmet)
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ^ | Monday, June 12, 2006 | Michael A. Fuoco
Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was injured when his motorcycle was involved in a crash on the 10th Street Bridge today. Roethlisberger was injured shortly after 11:30 a.m. at the Second Avenue side of the bridge near the Armstrong Tunnel. Steelers' spokesman David Lockett confirmed Roethlisberger was involved and is being treated at Mercy Hospital. An eyewitness said she saw a motorcycle headed outbound on Second Avenue as a car was coming inbound. The car made a left turn toward the bridge in front of the cyclist. The motorcycle hit the car and the operator flew into the windshield and then hit the ground. The witness said she went to the aid of the motorcyclist and asked his name. He said it was "Ben" and tried to get up, but she told him to stay still. The victim was bleeding heavily from a head injury. Roethlisberger has been known to refuse to wear a helmet when operating his cycle.

If he has a head injury then he'll be lucky to be driving for a while, even if he recovers.

A chap I know who whacked his head and broke his leg in a bike crash was fine after 5 months(leg mainly), but couldn't get his licence back for over 2 years.(head injury)
He drove a truck for a living too.

Helmets, but the serious biker types can ride three wheeled choppers without a helmet on a bike licence.

Oh Pat, my bruddah....there you go with that gov't intrusion angle again....
LOL :realtongu

Seriously, I do agree with your position. :103631605

However, it's a state issue. Some states just seem to be dumber then others on this one. Missouri, smart; helmets required (keeps rightside's new business filling them orders). Arkansas, dumb. Rather us all bear the increased cost of injuries that could have been minimized or prevented.

In Vancouver you can get a fine if you aren't wearing a helmet on your Bicycle. I think it's about $56.

If I owned the team, I don't care if the player is in a state or not that doesn't require helmets, The player better be wearing the %*#%& Helmet.

Dont know the steelers policy but I know after Jeff Kent's injury on his bike a lot of teams from all sports started including clauses to protect themselves against extreme sports accidents to save their asses financially if something like this should occur.

oh i don't care if people go without helmets...part of the reason i never had a motorbike is because you had to wear one.
My point exactley, why should we have to keep some hells angel wannabe on life support for 50 years and have to pick up the tab.
Just like drugs...leagalize em....but the user has to pay for his own rehab and fuck ups because of them.....thats libertarianism.

OMG !!!!!!!!

I really hope he heals up as best as possible ... hasn't he already had knee issues !!??

Wow, holy crap, the pictures are pretty scary ... this guy could have been killed for crying out loud ...

When I heard he liked to ride without a helmet - I pictured him on a big FAT BOY - cruising the back roads of the Allegheny's ... NOT on the FASTEST MOTORCYCLE on the PLANET !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I pray the man is okay, and he can resume his career - BUT I REALLY HAVE TO QUESTION Ben's SANITY and INTELLIGENCE.

A guy with his RESOURCES - could RENT a track to himself for the whole damn day .... crash as many bikes as he wants ... and go to practice the next day !!!

WHAT THE EFF is he doing on a STOCK RACER on the STREET !!! .... without a helmet ... really un-necessary.

peace.

Charlie Batch visited him in the Hospital.

I hope someone checked all the plugs on the machines Ben's hooked up to, after Batch left.

After all it'd be Batch's only shot at playing.
