while i would not say that it is an absolute by any means, i would say that certain people have advantages in certain areas. can all asians score higher than me on a computer science project...no. but the one's in my class always did. i came from a lower middle class background and i really wanted be the best. i just didn't have enough "right-brained" brain power to compete with these kids.
also, there have been many studies on the black athelete. a lot of these studies show that black atheletes tend to have a higher percentage on "fast twitch" muscle fibers than do white atheletes. it doesn't mean all blacks do or no whites do...it simply means the majority do.
therefore, on average, a black athelete is more likely to be able to out jump a white athelete. doesn't make him a better basketball player, but it does give him an advantage.
like i said before, i can work my ass off at shooting, passing, defense, positioning, etc...there is nothing i can do to dramatically increase my leaping ability. do you think that jordan and doctor j could dunk from the free throw line because they came from poor backgrounds and wanted it more than white players? or, were they blessed with unbelievable ability.
again, i am not saying they were naturally great players. i am a huge jordan fan and saw how hard he worked at his game and how much he wanted to be a champion. my point is that larry bird (who was a great player but not michael jordan) i'm sure wanted it just as bad, and i think came from a worse socio-economic situation than jordan (not totally sure on this), but was not blessed with the atheletic ability that jordan was.
i am not saying these are absolutes...i have seen plenty of black guys who can't play a lick, and there are white guys with a lot of atheletic ability (steve nash comes to mind). i'm saying that they are given an advantage (on average) that most white guys don't have.
