Many military people disagree. They said get him back at all costs because that's what American military does.....then determine what he is. Then arrest and try him if he's a traitor.

Which is exactly what happened. I'm sure you know more than life long military officers though.

[h=1]Taliban called Bowe Bergdahl their 'golden chicken' when he ambled into their grasp in 2009, new Serial episode reveals[/h]
  • Sarah Koenig interviewed a Taliban member who describes 2009
  • He said they couldn't believe their luck that Bergdahl came to them
  • They thought he was strange - he wasn't big like they assumed Americans to be, he had blue eyes, they thought he was drunk so threw water at him
  • But Bergdahl's fellow officers said they would shoot him if they found him

The Taliban called Bowe Bergdahl a 'golden chicken' when he fell into their grasp in 2009 - but his fellow officers wanted to kill him on the spot.
The latest insights emerged in the second episode of Serial, which focuses on the days after the former Army private's capture in 2009.
'A dead soldier was worth nothing, but he was captured alive,' a Taliban member that Serial narrator Sarah Koenig called Mujaheed Rahman said in the episode on Thursday morning.
'He was like a golden chicken... he was worth maybe 5,000 men.'
Conversely, one of Bergdahl's fellow officer Daryl Hanson told the podcast: 'I think a lot of us would have shot him. I truly say that with all sincerity, we have that much hate for him.'

Bowe Bergdahl was seen as a 'golden chicken' by his Taliban captors who couldn't believe their luck

The developments come just days after it was revealed Bergdahl, now aged 29, will face a general court-martial as he faces life in prison for desertion.
Bergdahl does not dispute the facts of his desertion, however there are conflicting views over whether the man held by the Taliban longer than any other American (five years) should face such severe punishment for the charge.
When Bergdahl ambled into the open arms of 15 Taliban men on motorbikes, the Afghans couldn't believe their luck.
'We were blessed,' Rahman told Koenig. He said they saw Bergdahl as 'a ready made loaf; a gift from god'.
They thought he was very strange. They were confused by his size ('he wasn't a big American'), they were suspicious about his eyes (Afghans are taught to be wary of people with blue eyes), and his was incredibly stoic.

He refused to eat and drink, he sat in silence, sometimes he laughed and smiled.
At one point they even took Bergdahl to a river to throw water on him because they thought he was drunk and needed sobering up.
Having never seen a drunk person, they couldn't be sure, but they often assume Westerners to be drunk anyway, according to Koenig.
The episode presents conflicting accounts of whether or not Bergdahl fought back or tried to run.
He explains in a phone conversation with scriptwriter Mark Boal that his survival instinct kicked in as soon as he arrived in captivity.
'Doesn’t matter how many kung-fu movies you watch, doesn’t matter how long you’re a martial arts fighter. These people, they have no hesitation, they have no problem killing you. They will kill you just for the amusement of being able to shoot you,' he said.
He also describes trying to explain why he was there to people who could barely speak English. Due to the language barrier, he ended up telling them that he left because his commanders were 'rude' - as that was the only word they understood.
Bergdahl also described disorientating moments, such as lying on the floor blindfolded as children threw rocks at him.

His fellow officers said they felt ready to shoot Bergdahl on the spot if they saw him

Last week, Bergdahl admitted he likened himself before his capture to Matt Damon's character Jason Bourne in the Bourne Identity movies.
'Doing what I did is me saying that I am like, I dunno, Jason Bourne, Bergdahl says as he recalls leaving his Army base in the first episode of the second season, which was released on Thursday at 6am Eastern Time.
'I had this fantastic idea that I was going to prove to the world that I was the real thing. You know, that I could be what it is that all those guys out there that go to the movies and watch those movies, they all want to be that, but I wanted to prove that I was that.'
However he also admitted that after leaving his base near the town of Yahya Kheyl in Paktika Province, Afghanistan, on June 30, 2009, the magnitude of his actions quickly dawned on him.
'I'm going, "Good grief, I'm in over my head."
'Suddenly, it really starts to sink in that I really did something bad. Or, not bad, but I really did something serious.'
He adds: 'I don’t know what it was, but there I was in the open desert, and I’m not about to outrun a bunch of motorcycles, so I couldn’t do anything against, you know, six or seven guys with AK-47s.
'And they pulled up and just…. That was it.'
Sgt Berdahl, 29, faces life in prison for the charge of deserting his troop.
He was held by the Taliban for five years after walking away from his military base in 2009 - until the U.S. government controversially swapped his freedom for five Taliban members from Guantanamo Bay.
[h=3]BOWE BERGDAHL'S STORY [/h]Sgt Bergdahl, 29, faces life in prison for the charge of deserting his troop.
Bergdahl went missing on the night of June 30, 2009, near the town of Yahya Kheyl in Paktika Province, Afghanistan.
In the first episode of the new season, Ms. Koenig said that as Sergeant Bergdahl stood, scared, in the open Afghan terrain, he briefly contemplated returning to his outpost.
Instead, he altered his initial plan, which was to trek 18 miles to a larger military base to raise concerns about problems in his unit.
He decided he would track Taliban insurgents placing improvised explosive devices in the road and deliver that information to his superiors.
How and when he was captured by the Taliban have remained the source of contention since that night.
But he was held by the Taliban for five years - until the U.S. government controversially swapped his freedom for five Taliban members from Guantanamo Bay
The swap set off a charged debate over whether Bergdahl was a traitor who had endangered his comrades or a confused soldier who had wanted to warn senior commanders about problems in his platoon.

This kid probably was never right in the head, even before he joined the army. He should be released due to mental illness under the condition that he spend at least 12 hours a day posting here at Rx.

Even if they convict him and sentence him (which he deserves) I'm betting that The Stuttering Clusterfuck pardons him right before he leaves office

That is my thought also. In fact he probably has already made that promise to his parents. Obama lives in his own world and his agenda is to ruin ours.

That’s a lock.

WASHINGTON — President Obama's decision to shorten the sentences of 95 federal prisoners Friday continued a continuing trend toward Christmastime clemency that's being criticized as part of "a broken process."

Obama said the clemency grants — the largest single-day use of his pardon power in his presidency to date — "another step forward in upholding our fundamental ideals of justice and fairness."

He also gave complete pardons to two people involved counterfeiting and bank fraud, the White House announced.

Most of the commutations to shorter sentences dealt with drug offenders given long mandatory minimum sentences, but also included 15 gun crimes — usually while committing a drug offense — and one armed bank robbery.

If he can pardon a armed bank robber he’ll have no problem with a deserter.
