After a horrendous hockey night where I went 0-5 I think I’m on to something that will give me a terrific bounce back Sunday. I see this limited card today with plenty of opportunities to light the lamp. You could make a case for nearly every game to go over the total.
Starts with Tampa Bay and a concerted effort from players to welcome in new coach Rick Tocchet. Or maybe it’s more like the Bolts will finally put in a any sort of effort now that Barry Melrose is gone. It was no secret Vinny Lecavalier had no love for Melrose and it showed in his half ass efforts through the first 16 games. He wasn’t happy with the limited minutes Melrose would allow him and then crucifying him to the press. You better believe he, St Louis, and Stamkos will all pick up their numbers with the benefit of additional ice time.
Montreal always plays better against speed/skill teams and their offense gets bogged down when they face physical opponents like Boston and Philadelphia. St Louis is to their liking and I expect to see their offense to have plenty of success against a team who has allowed 4.6 GPG in their last 6 and have Manny Legace in net.
Atlanta’s offense has been on fire and face a Philly squad coming home after a 3 game trip and playing their 3rd in 4 after a hard fought victory in Montreal last night.
San Jose and Chicago have both had no trouble in filling the basket for the last month. They are a combined 20-11 O/U on the season and both teams are a combined 12-3-1 over their last 8 games. No Nabokov. This one could be a barn burner.
Kings and Ducks is a interesting matchup. Kings have led the league in fewest shots against and Ersberg has been simply sensational. However with Ersberg starting the last 6 games and today being the Kings 3rd in 4 after a loss last night you can expect to see LaBarbera between the pipes. Also with Anaheim losing Francois Beauchemin for the season the Ducks are finally in the position to allow Bobby Ryan to play in the NHL. He’s been waiting a long time for this opportunity, hasn’t felt sorry for himself, and has been tearing it up in the AHL with 6 goals and 5 assists in 9 games. I say Anaheim puts a hurting on L.A. tonight.
