He won't be out of a job very long. I don't know what Nebraska can expect. They dont have a recruiting base in the state and it's not like back in the 70's, 80's or even early 90's where there was only 3 games on weekly and Nebraska had a strong name brand. Now kids can stay at home and still be on tv. Nebraska is a flyover state, they haven't had a great defense in years.

It really makes you wonder if there was more going on behind the scenes. That or they just waited until the buyout was tolerable.

Times have changed, but I don't buy that Nebraska still doesn't have a strong name. The 18 year-olds of today don't know so much, but their parents still do and nebraska still has continued to put players in the league... and they just had the #1 defense in Pelini's second year..though they weren't his recruits. As far as recruiting, the obstacles are still the same. Now, it would help to be able to get official junior visits like in basketball. Because, once recruits see the Nebraska facilities and the atmosphere, they are usually blown away. They are top-ten all day in that category. I can see your points. 9 wins seems like a lot, but that is his ceiling. Not a single conference title or an 11 win season sprinkled in to give hope, and since this isn't the 70's or 80's, coaches just don't have that kind of long-term agreement anymore.

Definitely is...People will kill for 9-3 seasons. Reminds me of the 10 win season from Ken Hatfield, and then he was fired by Clemson. The Big Alumni wanted him gone, and they got their wish. Bo caught the same, but he will quickly land on his feet again.

I can only hope for the same at SCar for Spurrier and Whammy. Please please please don't wait on him to retire. The time is now...

You say that about pelini, but then turn around and want Spurrier out. SCar was nothing before he got there. Nebraska was known for winning conference championships. They haven't won one since 1999. Almost half of that was on pelini....and there was something behind the scene....unhappy boosters, unhappy fans threatening to end the sellout streak.

I will add that it may have been presented to him that he had to clean his staff out or go himself.

Yes, we were nothing before Spurrier (well basically), but it's his time IMO. He doesn't have a grasp on the players and the Team like he once did, and IMO, he doesn't have what it takes to have it anymore. Add in, not firing Whammy, and trying to set his son up for the next HC job, which I will bet my left nut will be a bust, and it's time to go. Granted, you know more about Nebraska football than I, but it's no freaking secret that Bo isn't like there, and the big time Alums always get their wish in the end. Good riddance IMO. I will never forget when Bo and the Huskers took a beating from SCar in the Bowl game, and the first thing Bo can say is "We are still the better team...." Not. Good luck with the future of Nebraska football. If I were a high profile Coach, I would have no problem taking the job...

I gotcha ya. I didn't grasp your sentiment at first.

All good, I just hate to see what could be great programs keep coaches around because they are scared to make a move for the future. SCar BBall team did it with Darren Horn. Should've grabbed Greg Marshall and kept him in state when they could've. Granted, we have Frank Martin now, a solid coach, but no great coach like Greg Marshall (best coach in the Country IMO).

Pelini had a long streak of losing against top 25 teams. Everyone knows the cupcakes Nebraska plays outside of those strong teams. I think most coaches could win at least 8 games at Nebraska. It's winning against those top 25 teams that is needed, not just relying on 9 or 10 wins per season.

Would be a nice hire...wasn't he just named President of his Youngstown St? Why would he take the job if he was still interested in coaching?
If he still has a desire to coach and can pull himself away from a cushy university president job I believe it's his for the taking, with the "magic tattoos" baggage and all.
