Big Ten/ACC Challenge pairings announced
[font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Iowa will play host to North Carolina State in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge on Nov. 30 in pairings announced by both conferences today. The Hawkeyes and Wolfpack will play at 8:30 p.m. that evening on ESPN2, while ESPN will show Duke at Indiana beginning at 8 p.m. the same evening.
North Carolina State finished last season ranked No. 22 with a 21-14 record. The Wolfpack reached the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA tournament before falling to Wisconsin. The team’s star last season was senior Julius Hodge, who averaged 17 points and 6.6 rebounds and was drafted by Denver in the first round of Tuesday’s NBA Draft.
Iowa’s non-conference season will be strong against this season. It includes games at Northern Iowa and Iowa State and potential neutral site games in the Guardian Classic against Kentucky, Texas or West Virginia. Valparaiso is a potential match-up in the Hawkeye Classic, Arizona State will play in Iowa City and the Hawks play at St. Louis University.
Iowa hasn’t played in the Challenge for two years. The Hawkeyes have a 2-3 record against the Wolfpack, but the last game between the teams was in 1989.
The other Big Ten/ACC match-ups are:
Nov. 28 Virginia Tech at Ohio State;
Nov. 29 Wisconsin at Wake Forest, Purdue at Florida State, Clemson at Penn State, Illinois at North Carolina, Miami at Michigan;
Nov. 30 North Carolina State at Iowa, Georgia Tech at Michigan, Minnesota at Maryland, Northwestern at Virginia, Duke at Indiana.
