I wanted to share with some of you others a story of something stupid that I did and how not to follow the same path. During the New Year's Bowls, a poster in the college football section asked for help in trying to place a bet that he wanted to get more money down on. His name is The Don if he doesn't have other call names. The game was the Orange Bowl and I took the bet in for him which he won. I told him I could pay him when I got paid or he could play it out, it was his choice. He didn't contact me for a couple of days but finally contacted me on Saturday of the first day of the NFL playoffs. He wanted to play some games and I said no problem. He lost his winnings and got into the hole to me for bets I placed for him. He then wanted to place a bet on Hawaii that night which I explained to him the situation. I told him if he won, no problem as I would not owe my guy. But if he lost, I would be in the hole around a little bit less than 2 dimes to my man for him. I said that on Monday , if he lost that he would need to send me the money. No matter what. He said no problem. He lost the game on Hawaii. He called me the next morning and asked if he could place bets on Sunday's games. I asked him to take down my information to send me the money the next day and he said he couldn't at that moment. I agreed to take some wagers as I felt I would not get paid on the debt he owed me at the time. After taking in his first bet for the day which was a winner, I felt like this guy was going to stiff me and did not put in any more bets for him though he had given me some other plays to bet for him. I was down only about $700 on his bets after that win and was willing to bite the bullet for my mistake since I was the one that had agreed to do it but made my mind up that I would not place any more for him regardless. All the bets he gave me including the ones I didn't place won putting him up roughly $3000 from being down slightly under $2000. That night after the games were over, he called and I asked him to take down my information. He said that since he was up after Sunday's games that he was not going to pay me and that he did not remember us ever discussing those arrangements. I told him that after the first bet that day that I did not place any more of his wagers as I did not trust him. He tried to work an arrangement that HE BELIEVED to be FAIR that I would pay him only $1000 and in his mind the debt would be clean. I reluctantly agreed as he said that if I did not agree to his arrangement that he would ruin my reputation on the RX. I paid him $500 to date as I believed I was wrong for helping him in the first place and that it was my responsibility since I was an idiot. I refused to pay the remaining $500 to him as I feel I have been scammed by this guy. The reason I am posting this is I feel I should tell you the story and give my view of it as I will not be able to respond tomorrow as I am travelling and it would look like I am avoiding the issue. I have posted here for a long time and as many of you who know me know that my word is good and I always try to do the right thing. I have made a mistake in dealing with this guy and trying to help him but I will not be blackmailed by this guy any longer. I did not have to come and tell this story to make myself look like a fool but I feel it is important to stand up like a man and to admit a mistake and explain why he will not get the remaining $500 from me. For those that want to rip me that is fine I can take it and probably deserve it. For those that understand and forgive, I appreciate it. Thanks.

There are morons everywhere.
You did the guy a favor.. He was down big, said he could pay you if it didn't work out.. You placed the bet for him, he then said he could not pay you...and wanted to wager some more.

He is as dishonest as the next guy, and he did not live up to his "deal" as far as paying you if he lost...If you would have lost those other bets, I guarantee he would NOT have paid you...Now that he won he wants you to pay him.

You won the lottery, and he is your newest cousin...

wizzah,

I appreciate the support. I took a $1200 hit on this guy ( $700 to my guy and the $500 I have already paid him on wagers I did not place). I paid him even the $500 because I felt I was wrong but as time passed, I decided after talking to some people that I would not pay him another dime. Right or wrong, I feel like this guy should be considered lucky for scamming the $500 off of me. I learned a valuable lesson. Fortunately, I was doing well at the time where it didn't affect me adversely. Thanks again for your support.

Kojak:

Sorry to hear of your situation. Don't be concerned as to how the forum will view either you or your reputation. Those who believe in you will continue to do so and those who don't will not change their view of you. I learned some hard lessons through my many years and one which we have all heard before is "Never a lender nor a borrower be". Following this motto is hard sometimes but helps keep one out of situations like you have just experienced. Be in peace and rest assured that you will have plenty of support from this forum. Take care and be well my friend.

Kodak, After a couple similar cases in college, I decided not to make plays for anyone. If a buddy of mine wants to bet a game, I get the money up front. If they can't put up the cash, I know they are not serious. If someone can't find an out to take their action, they are not looking hard enough, or they are full of it.
You are a well respected poster here and this episode won't change that. Trusting someone you don't even know is a recipe for disaster.
So chalk this up as a lesson learned, and move on to business of capping games.

Best Wishes
Gary
