I'm sort of a newbie...is this a more popular bet than the spread? is there any strategy or basic rules to use?

It's not really a strategy, but for totals I usually look for teams with decent/good/great offense and bad defenses on both sides.

Last weeks Memphis/SMU contest is a perfect example. Both suck on D, both can score points.

Conversely, teams with really strong D you can lean to unders. Auburn is a steady under play IMO.

Strategywise, pick cold bad weather unders if the teams have a decent defenses. I like 2nd half unders because the last 5 minutes gets run down and teams usually need a full 7 instead of a fg to push it over.

To answer your question, i would say far more people pick teams in games then totals..No specific rules. Often 2 high scoring teams can lead to over inflated spreads. Sometimes your unnder play can be ruined by a defensive or special team td. your over on a turnover inside the Red zone.Last Fri night I had the over on both the first 1/2 and game. the first half made it easily and yet for some reason the 2nd half only 21 pts were scored. the game ended at 58 and i had 59.5.Really no missed field goals or anything..

VERY IMPORTANT:
CHECK THE WEATHER AND INJURY REPORTS

THIS WEEK I'LL LOOK ATl:
BALL ST OVER 58
MISSOURI UNDER 69
GA/SCAR UNDER
SAN JOSE/SAN DIEGO UNDER 43
ILL /U LAFAYETTE UNDER 68
WASH ST/BAYLOR OVER 43 WEATHER PROVIDING

GOOD LUCK:toast:
