Betting One Team All Year Long?

I've never bet on hockey, but i've been trying to get into it more and more every year. I guess I've always been a Hawks fan, but with Wirtz never wanting to show home games and his passing, all home games will televised this year. I was wondering how profitable it would be to say, bet the Red Wings all year long. I'm not exactly sure how high the moneyline could possibly be facing some of the worst teams in the league. But say I wagered to win $20 every night, you would have to think I would be up at the end of the year. Has anyone tried this system, and if not, any opinions of going this route? Thanks in advance for the responses.

it's a cool idea. funny, i do something like this with the red wings actually. against bottom half teams i usually take the wings in regulation, which obviously pays nicer. top calibur teams i take the wings with ot/so included. of course none of this is ever certain, because like everyone should, i always take a look at injuries, starting goaltenders, trends, schedules, and so on and so forth.

Without looking back and doing the math I'd say that's a losing prop.

I think you'd be a lot better off following your team or {one team} and follow the blogs from the beat writers religiously and bet on or against them on a regular basis. The linemakers don't have the time to follow one team like that. Hell, they barely follow hockey at all.

if you are able to bet with your head and not your heart you can have alot of success focusing on one team. I don't mean just betting on the one team I mean betting on or against them and playing the totals too.

By going to Covers.com>NHL>Statistics>ATS

you can see Past Seasons results for moneyline and ATS

Sadly, though this is one of best kept websites in our genre, the numbers for 2007-8 are wholly incomplete.

However, previous seasons are available via the dropdown menu.

To more directly answer the question of the OP, it's certainly possible to make a profit riding a single team for most of the year, but it's most likely going to be a team that strongly defies preseason expectations.

If a team plays at the level of preseason expectations, they'll likely lose a bit of money overall.

This would apply to a "great" team, or a "poor" team. Key is that they are playing above or on par with preseason forecast.

Finally, I'll concur with NJ9 in saying that it's certainly smart to try and learn a short list of teams and focus on their games. This doesn't mean to always bet them. It means learning their good and weak spots and try to tailor your wagers accordingly.

Pick your spots with the Wings. I can't wait for the Wings home opener against the shitty ass Leafs. I will be pounding the shit out of the Wings ML and PL.

ok you can garantee i'll be taking the wings in regulation for a few units unless something major comes up to sway my bet.
