What is the process on selecting the new pope? Who does it and when?

College of Cardinals (those over 80 take part as non-voting delegates) are the electors. They start the process 15-20 days after the death of the pope. There are 117 known voters plus an unknown Cardinal whose name has not been revealed (probably because his geographic location would put him at risk if it were known).

I believe the winner needs two thirds of the vote and has the right of refusal.

Pinny I don't think is very sharp here with only $250 limits. They also don't have Maradiaga who Betfair and Tradesports place among the front runners. The exchanges have better odds, by the way.

Nothing morally wrong about it...no different than betting on a presidential election in my eyes.

Betting on when he would die is a different story.

someone please explain why it would be morally wrong to bet on who the next pope is?

Keep in mind that the "conclave" will look first for authoritative italian candidates and only if and when they don't have one, they will look for foreigners...

betting when the pope dies is indecent, betting who the next pope will be is not really wrong....

then again, betting in itself is a sin....

I have read that the early voting of the popes was done by chance a gamble, dice or something.

Strange, I have some staunch Catholic friends, they say nowhere in the Bible does it say betting is a sin. In fact, these people say it is actually no problem. And what about all of the churches that raise money with Bingo, Monte Carlo Night, or Casino night?

I love you Slim...OF:hump:
