Neither in my opinion are athletes...however i would respect someone's opinion concerning a race car driver cliaming to be one. I have respect for both fields since the mental endurence needed either as a top poker player and a race car driver is remarkable. I just don't consider neither of them Athlete's

Not even close, Nascar drivers are known for losing 10 pounds during some races from being dehydration. Poker players probably gain 10 pounds of fluid during a long session.

nascar driver. they really have to do be in shape. you dont see anyone who looks like walking heart attack umm whatever that guys name is who won the 2004 wsop. stupid guy wore wierd glasses, well whatever his name is you certainly dont see any drivers that look like him.

the only poker player who could win a nascar event is the matador. everest can walk on water "politics dont mix with cards" don would say with a voice more hoarse than that of joni mitchell's

To consider either an athlete is laughable

say what you want about stewart but he is not incredibly obese like your typical final table player is. if he was, he wouldnt be tony stewart. you just cant put those big guys in nascar cockpits, they simply dont have the endurance to succeed.

How is a poker player an athlete? Is a sports an athlete too? Poker is a game of skill, like chess, backgammon or bridge. My grandma plays bridge, she ain't no athlete because of it.

I know you better be well conditioned to play poker for like 48hrs. I am not talking about popping pills either, I am talking about on the natural.

You could say that about just about anything that someone would do for 48 hours straight. What does that prove? Someone is not an athlete becuase they play poker.

Considering the def. of an athlete. A person possessing the natural or acquired traits, such as strength, agility, and endurance, that are necessary for physical exercise or sports, especially those performed in competitive contexts. they would be just about equal since they both excel in totally different areas embodied by the explanation.

It's like comparing Bobby Fischer to an Ethiopian marathon runner.

Neither could do what the other does and they both take skill.

Takes a lot of athletesism to drown Corona's at the pace Scotty Nguyen does at the poker table.

Fish,

Isnt it time that these two great competitions were combined for television? I propose that ESPN will soon produce the great WSOP-NASCAR Poker Ralley where great poker players ride long with great NASCAR drivers and everytime they pit they select a card. I havent worked out all the specific rules but as both Televised Poker and NASCAR are at the highest TV ratings ever, this is certainly cant lose proposition!:suomi:
