Detroit at Anaheim
Coming off that overtime loss to Dallas on Monday night, Detroit seeks a little revenge at the expense of the Anaheim Ducks as the Wings start a 3 game California road trip. The Ducks, coming off an embarrassing loss to Tampa last Friday were able to exact a little revenge of their own on Sunday against the Devils with a 4-3 victory. But therein lies the problem with the Ducks - they have been highly inconsistent this season, especially at home, boasting a mediocre 13-9-3 at the Honda Center.
J.S. Giguere looked good against the Devils, but he too has been inconsistent and mediocre at best (12-9-4, .907 SV%, 3.00 GAA).
Boasting a career record of 13-3-2 against Anaheim, Chris Osgood has also, for some reason, been exceptionally successful on Wednesday nights (72-24-13 for what thatʼs worth). The main reason that choosing Anaheim in this game may be a "sucker-bet" is special teams. Detroit has by far the best powerplay in the league, scoring at a rate of 27.4 % while the Ducks are a pedestrian 18th in the league in PK kills. The worst part for the Ducks is that they are 2nd in the league in PIM. That simple formula is enough to stay away from Anaheim in this game.

Buffalo At Chicago
This season, the Chicago Blackhawks have been "lights out" at home. Unless Detroit or San Jose is in town, Chicago will likely be the heavy favorite on any home game card. And that is exactly why Buffalo could spoil the party on Wednesday.
Hockey in January is often a game of momentum as the season gets long in the tooth and players look forward to the All-Star break. Right now, Ryan Miller has been outstanding for Buffalo and will look to continue that trend against Chicago. Miller made 48 saves on Saturday against Detroit and was simply brilliant. In the last two games Miller has stopped 88 of 92 shots he faced. Buffalo is 4-1 in their last 5 games and have been especially good on the road lately, boasting a 5-2-1 record since December 6th.
Their special teams play has excelled during this road streak, going 24.3 % on the power play while 89.9% on the penalty kill. Derek Roy has been on fire with 9 points in his last 5 games while Thomas Vanek (league leader in goals) has points in 5 straight games.
Buffalo will also be well rested, having a full 4 days between games. Always tough to bet against Chicago at home, but this could be one of those times where you should.
