I, of course, and only joking but found this today at SI.com:
The San Diego Chargers are now three wins away from keeping one of the NFL’s most unusual streaks alive. If the Chargers complete their improbable playoff run by winning the Super Bowl, they would be the fourth consecutive team to capture the Vince Lombardi Trophy after visiting Philadelphia for the Eagles’ home-opener.
Bizarre but true.
Baltimore lost to Philadelphia in Week 2 last season 24-23. The Giants and Packers both downed the Eagles in their home-opener during the 2011 and ’10 seasons, respectively.
Meanwhile, San Diego picked up its first win of the 2013 season in Chip Kelly’s home debut — a 33-30 victory that obviously maintained its importance late into the season, as the Chargers needed every last W to sneak into the playoffs as a wild-card team.
They needed a little extra mojo to make that happen, what with Ryan Succop missing a field goal in Week 17 and the Dolphins and Ravens both collapsing. Perhaps they had that boost banked from their early journey to the City of Brotherly Love.
