I have a very small book. We handle about 5-7k a week in action. Mostly $50 bettors. We have a couple guys who are betting in the $200-$500 range and using a service. They are around even. We use offshores to direct players to quote lines. We have accounts in a couple places and I have my own opinions but want more feedback. Which books offer us the biggest advantage over our players? Which books should we use to lay off? Things are going good. We could have made a couple of loser weekends into winners with better money/risk management techniques.

This is not the way to say it! You should say: I help a few friends getting on!

I have been doing this for quite some time and it is the $50 bettors type that are the most valuable, though $50 is very low. It may not pay for the administrative hassles, even if you offer them a high vig, but the $200-$500 range that does not try to bargain any price with you are the ones you should be looking at. Those betting bigger are more likely to argue with you that you can get a better price on the net somewhere, so they want to have that better price themselves. I told them all to go fvck themselves or to bet the high vig that I can get on easily myself.
Basically you should take some high vig shop for a start, so no Pinnacle. Second try to find one that offers bad prices on the side you usually do not like to bet yourself.

you shouldnt be laying anything off.........

1. adjust your lines according to what your action is...not CRIS
chances are you got spanked at rams -5' last monday.....

2. if you must lay off......make sure your shading the line enough so you can lay-off at a number better than what you booked the action.......

3. when you have a small book.......you are in a constant battle to beat one or two players (your nickle players)
that means adjusting your line more....on less action too..

4. if your nickle guys are following a service......always make sure they get the worse number possible......

I feel like when you are as small as we are you are really just gambling. We don't handle enough two way action to make the juice worth it. Limiting exposure to our bank is more important than maximizing profit.

If you have to lay off, probably Pinnacle is the best because of the reduced juice. However I would reccomend having several outs so you can shop and maybe side or middle a game.Just make sure you pick a large safe book.If you get layed down on for your layoff, you may find yourself out of business.

Get THREE outs at the very least and have one be Pinnacle for sure.

Just hold everything...assuming you have a spare bankroll for the tougher weeks (and if you don't you shouldn't be in the business!) So what if they use a service. Just keep your lines tight...use Olympic or WSEX as your guide and you'll be fine in the long run. Just because someone bets a larger amount or uses a service doesn't mean they know anything. If you layoff bets you will just be making the "layoffee" richer and exposing yourself to possible stiffs.

EXACTLY!! YOU HOLD EVERYTHING!!!! YOU WILL WIN IN THE LONG RUN!! YOU CANT "SORT THE MAIL" SO TO SPEAK. JUST LIKE YOU CAN BOOK AND BET!! I WENT THRU THIS EARLIER THIS YEAR. I HAD TO CHOOSE TO BOOK OR PLAY...THE GRASS IS MUCH GREENER ON THE BOOKING SIDE!! IF YOU CAN AFFORD TO HOLD EVERYTHING , YOU GOTTA FIND A PARTNER!

LUKE.....................your not making any sense now.......

you being as small as you say, your probably one-sided on just about every game..............what are you gonna lay off ???

so your saying if your 2dimes heavy on one side......your looking to lay-off action???

i can promise you the nickle bettors are gonna be the ones that make up the side your heavy on EVERYTIME....what if they are up for the week.....your gonna give away the only chance you have to beat them by laying thier action off.......

book to your bankroll.......period

if you can't handle the action you should not be booking it bottom line.

Spoken like a true railbird. I have taken a limited bankroll and built a small but good following. My guys pay on time and they get paid on time every single week. I want to keep it that way. Now why should I refuse someone's action and force them to go elsewhere, when I can simply layoff the portion I can't handle? I understand that I am not maximizing my profits but, I have to make sure I can cover my losses. I can handle getting hit for 2-3 dimes in a weekend but not much more than that. My bankroll is growing and it has come from taking action. Why would I stop? I am always looking for advice from those who know more than me but, I don't see how the post I quoted makes any sense?

As for the other posts, thanks for the advice especially the references to the specific sites which is exactly what I wanted. I also appreciate the advice on laying off and I agree but I simply have to take what I can handle until I have the funds and if it keeps going the way it has for the last couple of years I will have the funds. I would like to keep posting my questions and maybe I need to word them a little different is this an inappropriate subject?

Luke, don't listen to that BS.Nothing with satrting small and building your bankroll. Also nothing wrong with laying off.The biggest mistake made is not booking to your banroll. As your roll increases, increase your hold.DON"T GET GREEDY.If you are going to err,err on the side of caution.
