Hello,

I'm chasing a good line service in US sports. I've found the paid ones too expensive now, so I will have to use some of the free ones, though I know that nothing will reach the standard of Don Best.

Which would you consider to be the best:

Covers.com
Jim Feist
Others

Please mention why.

Thanks,
Ras

rasmus, the RX live lines service blows away covers. Basically covers has a few stats, and that's it. I really think their site is VERY over-rated. For free, the RX live lines is a winner!

General,
The moved are now indicated with RED font, as opposed to the previous edition that featured grey text.

Newbie,
HTML is the easiest to secure. I have two ports open - one on port 80 for the Apache webserver and another for SSH. Apache is VERY secure, and SSH2 is well .. the standard for secure remote access.

If we create an applet we have several issues to consider.

1. Java is VERY VERY easily decompiled and we risk having everyone and their brother distrute mini spiders.

2. I'd need to open up the App server to communicate (not sure what Query Threads are, but we would probably go with the most efficient means - pushing a delta of info up).
I trust the security of the webserver, I am leary about the security of the app server.

Remember, apache is spawn as a process controled by "Nobody" - so even is a new hack is invented/executed the worst they can do is buffer overload the apache process and gain control as "Nobody", which has basically NO RIGHTS.

We would not be compromised.

3. That type of development takes in incrediable amount of time. We do not have the resources for that currently.

That's it, in a nutshell.

Newbie,
I'm not switching app servers.

Tomcat is more than sufficient.

If we want guaranteed security we would most surely need to go with a supported app server (ie a large vendor such as Weblogic, Websphere, ATG Dynamo, etc ...)
