[h=2]New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said Denver wide receiver Wes Welker's hit on Patriots defensive back Aqib Talib was a "deliberate" attempt to "take out" the star defensive back during Sunday's AFC title game that the Broncos won.[/h]"The way that play turned out, I went back and watched it, which I didn't have a chance to [Sunday]," Belichick said on Monday morning. "It was a deliberate play by the receiver to take out Aqib. No attempt to get open. I'll let the league handle the discipline on that play, whatever they decide. It's one of the worst plays I've seen."
On Sunday, Buffalo Bills safety Jim Leonhard said that Welker was on a "suicide mission" on Talib.

The hit changed the game, as the Patriots lost their best defensive back for much of the game. Talib was most likely their only defensive back that could have given Peyton Manning any trouble during the game. Welker denied the hit was intentional after the game.

so a smaller and lighter player with a history of concussions is going to try and deliberately injure an other player by hitting him on the shoulder? More stupidity by Belichek. If Welker went low on Talib there may be a story, but there is no way Talib should get injured on that play. Guess hes not so touch when he doesnt have his gun

I didn't know there were any Arabs playing in the NFL....Lawrence of Arabia sure has come a long way. When they (The NFL) plays a game in Dubai,
we"ll know they've arrived.

After watching the replay a few times, I agree 100%. If he were trying to take out Talib, he would have gone much lower. That hit was around the waist.

As for the illegal 'pick' play aspect of it, that's another story. I can see why other teams get pissed about all the no calls.

Funny, how Bill ('spygate') Belicheat didn't comment on Edleman's very similar collision with Cromartie that took him out of the game at that time. Everybody in the league is running these pick plays including the Patriots.

It was known Talib has a hip injury Welker took him out with a hit to his injured hip. I don't believe Pats where going to win even if he was not hurt. Brady was off Denvers D stepped it up and no pressure what so ever on Manning who was playing well. Manning ran timing mixed in with pick plays when he played for indy its part of the game.

Taking Talib out cost the Patriots time of poessesion and was worth at least 3 points for Denver and also cost the Pats at least one possesion minimum. Talib out forced the Pats to change personal matchups all over the secondary. I said game over the minute he went out. Same scenario as last year. Talib out in 1st half then Flacco and Boldin go crazy the rest of the game. Changed the whole game. Other than Brady, Talib the most important player on the team.

I don't think he wanted to injure Talib, but it was a pick play, very much like the play they called a penalty on the Pats killing their drive just 6 plays earlier

if Talib had hit Welker like that, it would have been a 15 yard penalty

losing Talib hurt big time, doesn't mean the outcome would have changed.

Belichick's comments lead me to believe that Welker could be a key factor in how to attack the Seahawks defense. Had Sea faced a slot receiver like Welker? Seems like he's the guy who could be open against this great D

The Seahawks will defend against this aggressive Denver pick bs by taking the offensive. The Denver receivers are gonna grow alligator arms and turtle heads after taking a few of the Seahawk hits. Reversal is a bitch.
