hey guys,
While I normally try to avoid betting BC games, there are usually a few every season that I can't pass up. I hit on BC/UVA, and I believe that BC will cover and possibly win SU on Thursday. In '03 BC went to VT and beat them at home, and while of course the teams change, that was a very strong Tech team that year as well. BC is letting up 14 points/game while Tech is giving up 9/game. This would usually favor the under obviously, but the score in '03 was 34-27, so who knows what will happen on an ESPN Thurs night. I see Matt Ryan starting for BC who has looked very good this season. Unlike most ACC games, this game should be an old-school Big East type game with trench D and hard hits. I see, at the very worst, BC losing by 1 score. Good luck guys, my second actual pick of all time on theRX is BC +14.

i I agree BC. This will be a close game that BC can win outright. Were you as surprized as me that the line opened at 14? Well, lets take this to the bank. Go Eagles!!

BC has one of the most underrated O lines in the country. They should help control the pace of this game.

A couple of Vick-type mistakes, and they could grab this one straight up.

RNIC: You don't want Porter starting, trust me. Matt Ryan started against a very good Clemson team and also Army, and led the team to wins in both. Last week Porter had an awful game against Wake Forest, with 4 turnovers. Matty Ryan came in with a few minutes left and went 7/9 on his passes with 2 TDs to comeback for the win. My guess is Matt Ryan will start, and that's exactly what we're all hoping will happen. Good luck

BC has no shot if Ryan starts!

Porter started against Army, it was Ball High er State Ryan started against. If Porter is not QBing stay AWAY from this game. They are begging you to take BC and the 13 to 14. Only way you can play this is if Porter is playing. Ryan is a tough kid just learning the ropes. The defense can keep them in the game, but with Ryan back there the big play potential will be severly neutralized. If Kiwanuka is not healthy or out, this game could get ugly. I've watched every BC game this year and they need to be 100% focused for 60 minutes and need their top players to be healthy, this especially means Porter, to have a chance.

My thoughts

I agree that BC has a quality team but VA Tech is clearly one of the best teams in the country. They have the best defense and if Vick doesn't make bonehead plays like he did against Maryland, they win this game.

BC better come to play because they will not score many points. Can BC offense hold VA Tech to below 24 because i do not see BC scoring more than 10 points the conventional way without a lot of turnovers or special teams.

On the other side, I think BC has a quality defense. The thing about betting against Va Tech is when they get ole MOMENTUM going in Blacksburg, it is like a run away train of enthusiam.

At the very least, a special teams/Defensive touchdown late by Va Tech to cover the 13.

I still say thought from what I have scene of Va Tech defense this year, they could beat Texas and USC.

BC could not keep up with FSU's speed, and I think VT is as fast and has more talent than FSU. I like VT.

WELL THE REASON I ASK IS THAT I WATCHED BC AND FSU , MY FEELING WAS THAT BC HAD THEM BEAT UNTIL PORTER GOT HURT . IF PORTER WAS IN THERE I FEEL BC WOULD HAVE BEATEN FSU !!!! NOW WHEN RYAN CAME OFF THE BENCH BC COULDNT DO MUCH, IF PORTER STARTS I WOULD THINK HARD ABOUT PLAYING BC IN THIS GAME HOWEVER IF PORTER DOESNT START I THINK VT ROLLS ! AND BY THE WAY I FEEL BC'S DEF.IS ALSO OUTSTANDING NOT AS GOOD AS VT'S HOWEVER THEY ARE PRETTY STOUT . GL

1 thing no one has mentioned is that VT has incredible motivation right now being #3 in the BCS. They will be out to score, dominate, and score some more to show the world on the Thursday night stage that they are as good as USC and Texas.

Nothing against the BC defense, but I like the over in this one because I can easily see VT scoring 45 themselves if/when Big MO gets a rollin. VT is incredible on Thursday nights. Take away the missed FG and 2 fumbles inside the 5 vs. Maryland last week, and VT scores 45 without even trying in that game. It was never really in doubt. GL

RNIC: I think a lot of people are basing their pick on the one game they saw of BC (BC/FSU). I personally think the coaching staff lost us that game with some horendous play calling.

El Iguana: I think you bring up a very good point here regarding VT and their national title hopes, but also keep in mind that BC has only one loss and is looking to win the ACC title themselves. I talk to guys on the team a lot, and they haven't been this fired up about a game since Notre Dame last year.

Plus you are forgetting that Va Tech has Miami next week...they are in a horrible situation and will take BC lightly allowing BC to take an early lead and hold on for the cover or the SU win. BC is one stupid early play away in the FSU game from coming in here in the top 5 making this the marquee matchup of the year so far. I don't doubt Va Tech, but the Vicks are the same...a lot of hype, but still can't pass...with a defense just as good as Va Tech's, and an offense better balanced, BC is gonna have a lead throughout...it'll be Va Tech needing a backdoor cover for all you teasing this down to a pick on your 13 point teasers...which btw is really not a good bet when you can tease BC to 26. No way in hell BC loses by 26.

BC backers are really reaching for reasons to back the Eagles. Beamer will have the Hokies ready to go. They will not "look ahead" to Miami until they are ahead 38-7 in the 4th quarter.

BC 6-1 SU, 4-3 ATS.
VT 7-0 SU, 6-1 ATS, their only ATS loss was a backdoor cover of 34.5 points by Marshall after the score was 41-7 and VT was resting starters late in the 4th quarter.

All VT has done all year is grind up inferior opponents (except 1st game at NCState) and dominate. Despite 2 turnovers inside the 5 and 2 missed FGs they still owned Maryland by nearly 3 TDs on their own field last week.

I'm not even a VT fan, but I see them dominate and cover week after week. BC is a good team, but I don't see them keeping this one close. Of couse, I could be wrong. GL

BC AD Gene Difilipo said this morning via radio that Porter will likely start the game. Looks like Kiwanuka will be a gametime decision, but should play. VTech may be looking ahead a bit to Miami, and BC has had (almost) an extra week to prepare for this game.
