He pitched two no-hitters within three weeks in one August less than forty years ago. Who?

I believe Noan Ryan is the answer!

I know he pitched a couple of them in 1973, but not sure if they were 3 weeks apart...

What is Journeyman taking a toilet break or something? First Shrink posts a Game Seven pointspread poll thread and now Mr. Jones is playing baseball trivia. Poor J-Man leaves to go take a dump and everyone goes for his "job".

Johnnie Vander Meer pitched back to back No-hitters in June of 1938, but that is much longer than 40 years ago.

See Mr. Fu, ordinarilly I would say bravo good choice my man. In this case I have to say, August is not abrreviated as a 7 or a 9 when writting down the date.

It would be good if Mr. Jones would come back and tell us what he was thinking.

Gentlemen,

I took this bit of trivia from an excellent book I own called "Baseball's Greatest Quotations" by Paul Dickson.

On page 79 of the soft cover reprint there is a picture of a player with the following caption:

"Dean Chance, who pitched two no-hitters in three weeks during August 1967."

If this information is not accurate, I apologize. I don't particularly remember because at that time I was playing pro ball myself. Certainly a long way from The Show however.

I have to leave now and will assume this is incorrect from what I read above. Sorry again.

Chance was traded to Minnesota before the 1967 season. He enjoyed a resurgence with the Twins, going 20-14, with an ERA of 2.73 to win AL Comeback Player of the Year honors and pitching a no-hitter against the Indians August 25. On the final day of the regular season he faced the Red Sox with a chance to clinch the pennant, but lost, sending Boston to the WS instead, when the Tigers lost later that day to the Angels.

No need to apolagize Mr. Jones. This was a fantastic thread. Look at all the interest it sparked. I love these trivia questions. Suggestion to new top moderartor guy.IE Il Generale. Live chat with voice and maybe a fun live trivia thingamabob.

I informed Jones tonight at the watering hole that Dean pitched for the Twins in 1967.

He believed me.
